NB Council Candidate Dolores Otting Shoots Herself in the Foot ... Again

Part of running for local office is finding an issue that resonates with the public. The proliferation of group homes for recovering drug and alcohol addicts is one of those issues in Newport Beach. 4-time city council candidate Dolores Otting thought she'd found the magic issue when she sent out an e-mail to hundreds of residents asking for their vote because she had uncovered an arrest at an undetected group home. The problem for Dolores is that she runs fast and loose with the facts. Yes, there was an arrest. She got that part right. BUT, it was an arrest of a guy that had kept his rental car too long. AND there was no sober living group home.
In this day and age, where most of our email boxes are flooded on a daily basis with emails that range from preposterous to hysterical, I am quite concerned by the wisdom and judgment of one who would blindly send an email out with absolutely no attempt to verify its accuracy. Not only was the email totally false, the idea that even if an arrest had taken place at a rehab home, it would be Keith Curry's fault, is so stupid, so irresponsible, and so immature, I am at a loss for words. Dolores sent the email with the addition, "Just D.O. it", adding her signature behind the preposterous article. I don't think the credibility of the group that sent the email to Dolores even warrants additional criticism - they have managed to shred that to pieces all on their own - but I would hope that our city council candidates who are asking for the voters' trust would do more to earn it.

How about the text of the email?
It seems you did not verify your information either. The email you are attacking Dolores on made no mention of Keith Curry and to try to make a connection between her passing this on to a few and her blaming Keith Curry is absurd. She has been a constant voice and presence before city council, at almost all meetings since 1993. She has invested her time and done her research on all issues to serve the community, not herself. You didn't even read the email you speak of, yet you blast this type of drama and make a statement about what the city will be dealing with this November. Maybe if people like you would not jump to conclusions or use a mistake like this to slander Dolores (like Keith Curry did) we would have an election about the issues. The email you mentioned was concerned about the Dahlia home and with good cause. It does serious medical detox; this treatment is almost always done in a hospital. This email was a forward to a very small group of people. It was an opinion as to the link between crime and group homes. It had nothing to do with the city or Keith Curry. You also failed to address the real problem. Why are residents so concerned? You obviously have not had one or several of these homes next to you but that is soon going to change for you and the rest of Newport if the new city development agreement with Sober Living by the Sea is passed. If you had done your homework and checked out Dolores track record instead of jumping on the band wagon of hypocrites you would see that she is the breath of fresh air this city so desperately needs. Someone who will listen to the communities concerns and problems and help try to address their issues as she has always done. Not attack the residents when they come forward for help. Our current council sold the peninsula to the operators in 04 with their nimby attitude. Good luck.
