Yesterday I along with nearly 75 other community leaders, elected officials, and political staffers attended the grand opening dedication of the Board of Equalization Irvine Office. The last office was in Santa Ana and those tax specialists just couldn't wait to get out of that city.I was told BOE Member Michelle Steel was instrumental in getting this new and spacious office for the employees of the 3rd District, which encompasses San Bernardino, Riverside, San Diego, Imperial, and Orange County.
After the program, which was led by Michelle Steel's interim Deputy Chief Ken Maddox, I stuck around for a little bit to chat with the various candidates running for local office who were there to seek her endorsement.
Above is a picture of Michelle getting a certificate from the Council Members Steven Choi and Sukke Kang for choosing Irvine as the host city for the BOE district office.

Maddox is happy. New office in Irvine. He lives in Dana Point. Instead of commuting to Palos Verdes, he now drives to Irvine.
Better Commute nails it.
Years ago, when Irvine was just getting going, the Irvine corp decided to target corporate relocations. The Irvine corp., being the Irvine corp, turned loosed a team of researchers to determine what determines where relocators relocate to. Is it amenities? better infrastructure? the weather? access to universities? Cheap land? Start up subsidies? What?
The answer that came back was utterly surprising: the one constant in any relocation is that the Boss's commute gets shorter.
As you point out, this rule applies to more than corporate relocations.
