John Edwards' Msg: No Monopoly on Ethics for Democrats

For all those Democrats who have conviced themselves that they hold a monopoly on ethics, I would like to be the first one to say: please.
I'm not saying Republicans should be proud of our Larry Craigs or Duke Cunninghams, but I do believe that a new low has been set by this former Presidental candidate. It's one thing to cheat on your wife. It's something completely different to have an affair while your wife is battling cancer and on the campaign trail for you. Not to mention he may have fathered a child out of this affair. Between this and Jefferson's $100,000 in the freezer I believe it's about time the Democrats change their tune on the discussion about ethics in politics don't you think?

By the way, how come it took the National Inquirer to break this one? Pathetic job of journalism in the case of the MSM.

Yeah, that Newt Gingrich is a portrait of ethics when it comes to marriage and fidelity
I can't believe that the SUN actually uncovered this story! I think it is disgusting that he cheated on his wife while she was getting treated for cancer! I never liked John Edwards he always seemed plastic to me. I hope the SUN continues this trend.
Both parties have their fair share of allegedly fidelity-challenged men, whether we're talking about JFK, Newt, Hart, Larry Craig, Bill Clinton, Mike Carona, or Edwards. It's just that we Reep's pay a higher price for such sins because of the tendency for some Reeps to count themselves among the religious right. That tendency hurts all of our credibility when one of us strays into sin.
In this regard it would be much easier to walk with liberals. Because the liberals have espoused positions that many of us would characterize as sinful, it's not so shocking when we hear news of inappropriate behaviour.
Although I am saddened by Mr. Edwards' apparent disregard for his marital relationship, it's his initial denials and subsequent admission are what trouble me the most. It is almost as though we expect the political leaders of our country to be pathological liars (until caught by the media).
At least she cleans up better than Larry Craig.
John Edwards is an embrassment to the liberal cause. But we do not care about John Edwards. We work from the grassroots and he just another rich guy that talks a lot of hot air.
The real work of progressive cause comes from the grassroots and not from blowhards like John Edwards.
Look I knew about this months ago because John and Ken did an expose on this guy. And knowing John and Ken, KFI would be correct. And I was vindicated.
Look I listen KFI and KFPK passionately so I get both sides of the story. And my sources are always correct. I cannot name a guy in the county is who is KFI and KFPK fan but I am one.
And because of KFI, I am anti-illegal immigration and yet most of my politics agree with KPFK.
Newt, Foley, L. Craig, Livingston, Vitter, Spitzer, McGrevey, Packwood, Clinton – there is a long list of public people with personal failings. I am not put off by the act or the lying (What do they have to lose at that point?), and as a general rule, I don’t think adultery should be a disqualifier for office. What is repellent to me is the hypocrisy, the cravenness that they hold on to power after being caught, and the humiliation their spouses have to endure when used as props when they make public admissions. They are self-absorbed malignant narcissists. Bob Packwood ran for reelection. Bob Livingston did it right; he got caught and resigned in hours. I did notice McCain gave a firm no comment to the Edwards affair.
