Janet Fundraising Juggernaut Chugs Along...With Ware Disposal On Board

Posted by: Jubal | 08/14/2008 2:51 PM

As I noted in a previous post, Janet hasn't stopped fund raising since winning re-election, pulling in nearly $10,000 in the last two weeks of June alone. Of course, she has nearly $90K in debt to erase, so it's not surprising. The sooner that's erased, the sooner she can move into the black and build the kind of campaign warchest that provides an elected officials with options.

I just received an invite to a September 4 fundraiser for Sup. Janet Nguyen, "Chair, OCTA Transit Committee." Hmmm -- I wonder who's on this fundraising list? At least it not brazen like the one Lake Forest Councilman Richard Dixon sent out last year.

Here's the invite:

One of my initial thoughts is how will Art Pedroza, Orange Juice blogger, Sana Ana council candidate and Janet's number one defender, react to Judy Ware's presence on the host committee? Art has declared he will not accept any contribution from Ware, alling it an "awful company" and hoping they will leave Santa Ana:

And why aren't the neighbors in Logan going after the Santa Ana City Council?  So far neither Mayor Miguel Pulido nor the Council have done anything about Ware's operations in Logan - which have been conducted without an EIR and a CUP, as I understand it.  I am working on getting copies of the Council members campaign finance reports.  Follow the money and you will find Ware Disposal...

I have already promised not to accept money from any developers with business in our city.  Allow me to add Ware Disposal to the list of folks I won't be accepting money from.  I wonder how much money Councilman Carlos Bustamante has accepted from Ware?

If Art truly believes Ware buys votes, wouldn't that apply tot he Board of Supes, as well? WWAD? What will Art do?

Other candidates have actually sent out fund raising flyers and then have not even become a candidate for the seat for which they have asked for funds. Then they have used it to pay off campaign debt from previous campaigns. I'd think that a bit more egregious than actually saying that the fund raising to to retire the debt.

I agree and hope that the folks at the Orange Juice take Janet to task for alligning herself with Judy Ware. Judy's filthy company is a bad neighbor, fails to comply with city standards/regulations and continues to give the middle finger to the residents of the Logan Neighborhood, the oldest residential neighborhood in Santa Ana.

Whatever goodwill Janet received from the neighborhood because of her donation to the park there will be gone forever now that she has alligned herself with Judy.

I am not surprised to see Janet alligning herself with Judy considering that birds of a feather usually flock together.

Highlander said:

Sean, you think the residents of Logan will turn on Janet "forever" because Janet accepted a campaign donation from Judy Ware? You can't be serious. I hate to break it to you, but 95% of the residents in the Logan neighborhood care more about their local park than they care about Judy Ware's check to Janet. This is inside baseball stuff...

Sean H. Mill said:

Highlander,

Yes I do believe they will. Judy Ware has done all she can to destroy that neighborhood and they do not like her one bit. If you allign yourself with her, which Janet has, they will not be happy.

I spoke to one of the neighborhood leaders this morning about this and we are considering a protest of this event. I doubt the folks in south county will be happy to see all those Santa Ana faces picketing in their neighborhood.

Contributions are one thing, votes for sale are another. There is no indication that any of Janet's contributors have influenced her platform which is also why we defended her taking money from Ahmanson. The same can't be said of the incumbent councilmembers.

SMS,

There is nothing that proves that Judy has bought off councilmembers either.

If you folks are going to hold Janet to a different set of standards just admit it. To go after Pulido, Claudia, Carlos, Vince and even Sal, who has never taken a dime from Judy, and turn around and give Janet a free pass is hypocrisy.

Do you believe Janet is somehow different from all the other pols? Look at who is throwing the fundraiser, Julie Vandermost. This is a payback for the Hutchens vote.

Judy would not give Janet money and not expect anything in return. Don't kid yourself into thinking otherwise.

Sean -

First of all, speaking for myself, the only one I have ever gone after was Carlos, and not even remotely viciously. Secondly, Janet isn't in a position to do any favors for Ware, except maybe help them find a more suitable location, but that's good for Logan Barrio, so I fail to see the problem.

When Janet starts acting in the interests of Ware Disposal to the detriment of others, only then will she hear it from me... and I've always applied this philosophy equally, so Janet is hardly the first pol I've given the benefit of the doubt to.

In contrast, Carlos is part of a council that's let Ware run amok. When I see Ware's name on his financials, it makes me a little nervous, and the same goes for the rest of the council, with the exception of Sal Tinajero, who as far as I know has not been tainted by Judy Ware's special interest money.

You need to educate yourself on orange County, SMS. The board awards trash hauling contracts for unincorporated areas. Ware has one of those contracts.

'You need to educate yourself on orange County, SMS. The board awards trash hauling contracts for unincorporated areas. Ware has one of those contracts.'

And they got those contracts before they gave money to Janet, didn't they? Are you implying some kind of conspiracy?

SMS,

Judy wants to make sure she keeps them too. Also, should Logan try to get the county involved in the battle against Ware, Judy now knows that she has Janet on her team. Why else would Janet enlist Judy as one of her bagwomen?

You might want to lay off that bottle of 150 Proof "Jump To Conclusions" you've been drinking.

I didn't imply anything. I corrected an erroneous statement by you.

That is really a tiresome, not to mention dishonest, debate tactic, Sarah.

Matt -

It was a rhetorical question. I knew you weren't. I'm merely pointing out what you inadvertently suggested. Why are you so defensive? I'm not your enemy.

SMS

Oh and Sean -

'Judy now knows that she has Janet on her team'

Or is it the other way around? Judy's not a bad ally as long as you don't get bogged down in her 'waste.' Really, she just needs to move her business to a more suitable location; she's not the devil!

Sean H. Mill said:

"she's not the devil!"

SMS,

Has the OJ changed its position on Judy Ware now that she has given money to Janet Nguyen? Are you speaking as a member of Art Pedroza's campaign committee when you say this? If so, when did Art change his position in regards to Judy?

To the residents of Logan Judy might as well be Satan because she has made their lives a living hell. Your attempt to protect Janet by propping up Judy is not going to do Art any favors. I would rethink that position and quick.

Sean -

All I said was she's not the devil. I don't see horns. I don't see fire and brimstone. I think you're exaggerating just a wee bit, Logan is just sick of her and they want her out. So let's get them out!

"I think you're exaggerating just a wee bit, Logan is just sick of her and they want her out."

SMS,

You are new around here and I will forgive your being naive about what Logan's opinion of Ware is. I have known those folks for over 20 years and I feel that I have a little better take on their views about Ware.

They are more than just sick of her. Yes they want her out, but they also want her brought to justice. They don't simply want to cast off into another neighborhood where she can run wild and destroy their community.

Stop propping up Ware in order to defend Janet. You need the residents of Logan a lot more than you need Janet.

Sean -

... so much for an attempt at moderation. I empathize with the way the Logan residents feel; all of us on Art's team do. She a bad neighbor, neglectful, maybe even criminal, but I doubt she wakes up in the morning and thinks, 'Gee, how can I screw Logan today?' I admit, I could be wrong, but the simplest explanation tends to be the right one.

You've told me that hope is gone that Ware will be prosecuted, and the City Council can't file charges, so all you can do is get them to move to a strictly industrial neighborhood. And again, there are reports that they're moving on their own, so according to your own belief, this may all soon be a moot point.

Sean,

You are right. As I stated on my blog, Janet should not take money from Ware or in any way associate with her. I have spoken to Janet about this several times. It is a dumb idea to take money from Ware, period.

However, Matt is only bringing all this up to detract from my race against Carlos Bustamante - who also takes money from Ware regularly.

Janet is now in office for four years. She is not an issue. But we CAN take out Carlos this November - and that is what we ought to do. That is what I will remain focused on.

I have already posted Carlos' campaign finance reports from 2004. We will be posting his supervisorial reports later today.

YEas Art it is ALL ABOUT YOU and your run for council....all roads lead back to you...you are so important.... lmao. Rah, Rah, Rah....I wonder Art did you sign the code of fair campaign practices at the ROV when you files? I bet you did not.

SMS is right on one point, Ware is not the devil, she is quite a nice lady. She is not in Logan illegally, and I seriously doubt that she stays up all night contriving ways to mess with the residents.

'She is not in Logan illegally...'

Actually, I didn't say that.

Sean H. Mill said:

"She is not in Logan illegally"

Flowerszzz,

The facts say otherwise. She has been repeatedly cited for operating illegally in Logan. Her operation is out of compliance with the zoning regulations on which they are operating. Perhaps you should do your homework on the subject before you rush to her defense.

She also powerwashes her trucks on her sites and we have photos of her workers doing so. That means that she is likely in violation of federal and state laws as well by potentially polluting the ground water in that area and allowing the polluted water to wash off into drainage pipes that flow to the ocean.

Flowerszzz said:

SMS - never said you did say that part.

Sean - I know the beef with the facility....I know there are many watching the facility and documenting their every move. I am sure she is JUST as miserable in that neighborhood. However, I will say that I have not heard of the facility being cited for anything so I dunno Sean.

Sean H. Mill said:

Flowerszzz,

I wrote a post on the OJ some time ago in which I documented each of the violations by Ware. I believe it was in the neighborhood of 19 or more in a few month period. I will look for a link for that post.

So I do know about her illegal operation.

Flowerszzz said:

I saw it before...have they ever been cited is what I am asking? I am not arguing with you Sean....I just think if there were violations they would be cited.

Sean H. Mill said:

Flowerszzz,

Here is the link to a story I wrote last year that documents the violations for which they were cited:

http://orangejuiceblog.com/2007/11/ware-disposal-properties-in-logan-a-cornucopia-of-violations/

So the answer is yes they have been cited.

I was curious to see if you'd keep your promises to "rip" Janet if she ever failed to live up to your expectations. And just as I expected, you failed to keep one your promises (again) and give her a free pass.
