Fullerton Poised Spike City Employee Pensions...Perhaps Retroactively

Steve Greenhut posts over at Orange Punch that the Fullerton City Council is set to spike employee pensions:
When you have a council dominated by RINOs and Democrats, should we really be surprised? Whichever councilmembers votes for this spike deserve the boot in November (or 2010 if Fullertonians have to wait that long).
I'm curious as to the position of the Fullerton council candidates -- especially Karen Haluza, herself a municipal employee (of Santa Ana) -- on the pension spike.
They never learn, do they? The city of Fullerton is considering a plan to dramatically increase pensions (25 percent) for its government employees and the council is thinking about doing it RETROACTIVELY. I'd expect the two RINOs on the council (Dick Jones and Don Bankhead) and the two Democrats (Pam Keller and Sharon Quirk) to support it, with Shawn Nelson (the only conservative on the council) to be the hold-out. Nelson told me he fears that all the details will be negotiated before the public learns about this. You can read the rest of Steve's post here.

As a member of the Fullerton Community I will vote against anyone that increases pensions in a time of economic slow down and thinks for a second a retroactive pension spike is legitimate or necessary.
I will also tell everyone I know in the community to vote against any incumbant or candidate that supports this idea.

Well, let's hope it becomes a campaign issue.
This will only be awkward for Dick Jones who is up for re-election. He will have a real dilemma here. His natural inclination will push him to go for it. Ed Royce will try to warn him off. But since he is only running as a favor to Ed in the first place it will be interesting to see what kind of leverage he could apply. Why, Ed might even have to bring Linda Lequire out of moth balls to keep the good doctor in line.
In any case, look for a postponement of the issue 'til after the election - just like happened with the Redevelopment expansion proposal; then both Quirk and Jones can pile on with impunity. One thing they hate in Fullerton are elections that have to address real issues.
