DPOC Endorses Paul Lucas; Rejected Linh Ho and Robin Marcario

Posted by: Tomahawk | 08/28/2008 12:27 PM

Paul Lucas.jpgI just received confirmation that the Democratic Party of Orange County officially endorsed Paul Lucas (pictured left), a Garden Grove sanitary commissioner, for City Council.

The surprise of the night was the Dem's rejection of both Linh Ho (pictured right) and Robin Marcario.

Linh Ho is the union-backed candidate in this race and it was expected that she would get the party's endorsement, but for some reasons, she failed to get the necessary 60% or 15 votes needed.

In a last ditch effort to get the party's nod, an emotional Linh Ho nearly broke down before the central committee to ask for the endorsement, but it was too late.

I was told Marcario only got 11 votes.

The strange thing here is that there are two open seats for the Garden Grove City Council.  The DPOC could have easily endorse both Paul Lucas and her, but instead only supported the former.

This is an embarrassment not only to the Ho's campaign but also to Loretta Sanchez and Lou Correa.  Both these veteran lawmakers are backing Linh Ho but they can't even whip enough votes on the central committee to secure the endorsement for her. Lame!

Linh Ho.jpgExcept for the time when Linh Ho (pictured right) appeared next to Lou Correa and Loretta Sanchez in a park to kick-off her campaign, I haven't heard anything from her since.  Linh Ho hasn't put up any campaign signs yet, but if she going to do it, she need to do it soon because all the available spaces are taken up by Andrew Do and Trung Nguyen.

Even though there are 9 candidates in the field, at this point the only folks who are in contention are Steve Jones, Trung Nguyen, Paul Lucas, and Andrew Do.

The fact is that Lin Ho has repeatedly made mistake after mistake by inserting her foot in her mouth every time she speaks.
First there was the gaff when she spoke against the GG Downtown Business Association. Basically taking the side of Steve Sheldon on the condo project that steals property through eminent domain by the city. This infuriated Democrats who have fought Sheldon over the years because of his views on LGBT issues.

Second, Lin Ho took the wrong approach to her address of the DPOC. She went in there as an establishment candidate. This mistake was further compounded by the addition of Alicia Berhow who is a staffer at the OCBC. An organization diametrically opposed to Democratic Values. This was not good for Lin Ho because many of the DPOC Central Committee members hate Alicia Berhow. When she spoke on behalf of Lin Ho it lost Ho Votes and gained votes for Lucas.

Third, when Lin Ho spoke at the Garden Grove City Council last Tuesday, she spoke on the issue of graffiti in the city and noted that her campaign office was recently hit by taggers. THEN, she asked the City Council to use the 1000 dollar grant slated to the UVSA to do graffiti clean up to be used on HER CAMPAIGN OFFICE!!.
Self serving much?

Lastly and most damaging, Lin Ho is a newbie. She has no name ID; no one knows who she is, and apparently no real sense of how the city and its citizens think. To ask for grants to be used to clean graffiti from your campaign office? And to go against the citizens on a condo project built on stolen land from a carpet bagging developer? Then to basically run an invisible campaign? No one knows who Lin Ho is except that she is the one who wants grant monies to go to clean up her campaign office and she wants to tear down Main Street. Nice way to go with both the Viet and non-Viet communities Lin.

Lin Ho is passing on a real opportunity here as well. I heard Mr. Lucas say that he wanted to endorse Lin Ho. She got more votes than did Robin in that Vote. She should have realized right then that if she wants to get along in the DPOC; she needs to stop listening to people like Alicia Berhow, Claudio Gallegos, and Marc Sussman. Lucas is a steady, loyal, consistent, generous Democrat who has been involved in the party for years. No one in the DPOC is going to favor anyone over him for any position when they are newbie’s.

Lin Ho must also reconsider working with Mr. Lucas. He has been trying to reach out to her and get her to sit down and talk. If for anything to learn how to stop putting her foot in her mouth. The best is that she can get on board with his campaign and enjoy the benefits of the hard work he has laid down and share his base with him. Lin Ho has no base. Not in the Viet Community, Like Lucas, not in the White Dem Community, Like Lucas, Not in the White Rep community, Like Lucas, not in the Latino Community Like Lucas who is fluent in Spanish.
Lin nees to contact Mr Lucas to talk about a coordinated campaign.

Linh Ho made a very passionate speech in front of the council that I thought that she would get it but those of people are so arrogant and corrupt that they voted for their friends without even considering the other candidates.

No big loss though, no one cares about the DPOC. I was there at that meeting and they acted like children, arguing over themselves and acting utterly reprehensible.

I can't even take the DPOC seriously after watching that.

Morgan I would aggree with you. Especially when the Treasurer Gila Jones tried to block the endorsement of the only Democrat running against an incumbent Republican for the South Orange County Community College District.

her quote was "There are good republicans in the world and we need to Keep them in Oiice".

There is oe problem with that statement. First the Dem candidate was endorsed by the Faculty Association. This was the poin that Gila attacked in backing the incumbent Republican. Well, we are not the Faculty Asociation. We are the Dem,cratoc Party of Orange County. We dont listen tot he Faculty Asociation. We listen to Democrats in OC.

"This infuriated Democrats who have fought Sheldon over the years because of his views on LGBT issues."

The Dems held her support for Steve Sheldon against her? Their beef regarding "LGBT issues" should be with Steve's dad, Reverend Lou Sheldon, not Steve.

Steve is not his father. What a shame if what you say is true. These folks need to educate themselves as to who they are "fighting" before exercising their anger. Steve's a good guy and his business interests have nothing to do with Rev. Sheldon's Traditional Values Coalition.

Where is Linh Ho's best friend Tammy Tran? Isn't Tammy on the central committee? How come Tammy didn't do anything to help out her "friend"?

Wait, I forgot, Tammy is too insecure to help any other Vietnamese Democrats because she's afraid that they might upstage her in the future.

Poor Linh Ho, she should have learn from the Hoa Van Tran drama.

Sean H. Mill said:

"Tammy Tran"

I heard a rumor that she took out papers to run for the Westminster City Council but never turned them in. Does anyone know if this is true?

Why wouldn't she want to run in Westminster? Haven't her allies such as Alicia Berhow and Marc Sussman built bridges between the DPOC and the Vietnamese community? I mean, weren't they instrumental in saving the DPOC from the evil that was Hoa Van Tran and protecting the Vietnamese community from the shame he was going to bring them?

What about Robin Marcario? Her campaign is being managed by the heroine of the Hoa Van Tran debacle, Misha Houser. I can't believe that the DPOC didn't rally behind Misha's candidate. Gila, Alicia and Mark should have gone to the mat for Robin. Didn't they owe that much to Misha after how well she followed orders in the plan to take Hoa down?

The least the could have was make sure Misha's candidate got the endorsement. After that Tony Award winning performance she put on at the meeting in which they tried to strip Hoa of the party endorsement all Misha has to show for it is a lawsuit against and legal fees piling up.

The "Apple Dumpling Gang" proved once again that they are the gang that can't shoot straight and Paul Lucas got the party endorsement and their friends got nothing.

Dear Sean:

Tammy Tran did indeed pull paper for Westminster City Council. She ended up not turning them in because other than the support from her boss Correa, no other local elected officials in Westminster want to support her.

Sean H. Mill said:

Inside Dem,

Thanks for the confirmation. I hear she wants to run for the 68th AD and if another Vietnamese Dem enters the picture it my throw an monkey wrench into her plans. Do you know if this too is true?

This may explain some of the shenanigans perpetrated by so-called "loyal Dems" during the First District race, dontcha think?

lin Lin Lin said:

Sean,
Misha Houser is simply a pasty. There was never any real support for Robin Marcario. She was simply being used to thwart Paul Lucas by the Dems you mentioned above; Sussman, Berhow, Gila Jones and Melahat.

Misha was being used as a patsy by Melahat, Sussman, Berhow, and Gila Jones to mess with Edgardo by Proxy through Hoa Van Tran. Tammy Tran was part of that cabal too.

Sean,
This is the same small group, some of whom are not even voting members of the DPOC Central Committee who tried to throw Lucas and Hoa van Tran under the bus because of their hate for Edgardo.

The members of the Central Committee Endorsement Recommendation Committee Are Alicia Berhow, Gila Jones, Melahat (paid DPOC Employee), and some others that are not part of this cabal.

These members recommended the endorsement of Robin Marcario, and Lin Ho, above that of Paul Lucas, a long time activist with the DPOC.

The membership reacted by first recognizing that Lucas is a loyal hard working Dem in OC. and secondly by rejecting the recommendation and endorsing Lucas in the first round of voting. Then rejecting both Marcario and Lin Ho for the second endorsement.

Lin Lin Lin,

Have you heard anything about Gila Jones wanting to replace Frank as the Chairman of the DPOC? Do you think that it is wise that some folks have attempted to cede power to this small cabal you have mentioned?

What do you think the folks in labor such as Patrick Kelly of the Teamsters think about these people trying to take over control of the party? After all wasn't it their ally Chris Prevatt that call Kelly a "thug" and their pal Houser that spread vicious lies about Kelly?

I hope the majority of the folks on the DPOC Central Committee realize how divisive this little click is. If last nights results are any indication they still are on the outside. Lets make sure it stays that way.

lin Lin Lin said:

Sean,
Gila Jones has stated that she does want to take over for frank. Actually I should say she wants to overthrow frank. But last night I think dashed all hopes of that when she went against the lone Democrat going against an incumbent Republican in South OC. She stated that "There are some good Republicans in the world and we have to work to keep them in office."

You know what? We are the Democratic Party of Orange County. If you wan to vote for a Republican in the booth that’s your business. But You Do Not! I repeat Do Not at anytime on the Central Committee, advocate for the non-endorsement of the sole Democrat running against an incumbent republican. Not when you are the Treasurer of the DPOC.

Gila in my opinion should resign or be censured for her statements. And I thin she should be removed from office for her remarks to go against a Democrat running as the lone Democrat in a race.

As far as Patrick Kelly is concerned, I cannot speak for him on his personal feelings. But I do know that he is not happy, nor is any labor leader, with the little cabal running the DPOC with Alicia Berhow as the little leader. Berhow is despised by Labor because of her anti-Labor views and her employment with the Orange County Business Council which is the antithesis of the DPOC and Labor. She got fired from Loretta Sanchez' office because of her caustic personality and elitist views.

Labor wants to have the following people removed from the DPOC: Alicia Berhow, Melahat, and Gila Jones. Additionally, Labor has had it with Marc Sussman. He is Alicia Berhow boyfriend and Loretta Sanchez' field campaign manager. He has pissed off too many people in the Democratic Party and in Labor especially. His head is on the block and will be chopped.

Anything anyone needs to know about Paul Lucas can be found by searching for his name on Orange Juice Blog. There is also a story about him on OC Weekly's website. Please be sure to read all of the comments.

The short version of the story is that Paul is desperate for power. The longer version is, well, much longer. Your party should do well this election considering that DPOC is a ship without a rudder.

... just promise me you guys won't stone any LGBT people in celebration. Please?! :P

Tomahawk,
I don’t know how you forget this little nugget:

The DPOC Endorsement Committee Voted to Recommend Robin Marcario and Lin Ho to be endorsed by the body of the DPOC.

So basically, Robin M, and Lin Ho got the early endorsement by the recommendation committee and Lucas was recommended to not be endorsed.

Who came out on top? Paul Lucas did.

Paul not only overcame the recommendation. He came out he only endorsed candidate in that race. Many a Jannie were upset at that on the DPOC E Board.

'So Basically, Paul Lucas has balls. Is effective, productive, and apparently quite popular in the DPOC...'

I'm not going to quote the whole thing...

So Matt, you're going to pull this comment WHEN? Not only is it a disgusting and unfair attack against a person's sexuality, it comprised of a MULTITUDE of assumptions and outright libelous remarks passed off as facts. I have never disclosed my operative status as it's nobody's business either way and I have NOTHING to do with the group of people Paul is so convinced are out to get him.
