DNC Watch: Illegal Immigration, Anyone?

As you are sitting at home this evening watching the Democrat National Convention (bitterly clinging to your Bible and handgun), ask yourself this question: "What about illegal immigration?"
A few months ago, this was a hot electoral issue. And for many likely GOP (and possibly, California at large) voters, it is likely a high priority issue.
Yet, the issue has dropped off the radar screen. The LA Examiner reports that "An anti-immigrant rally fizzles as DNC opens". Apparently, Libertarian candidate Bob Barr and the Minuteman Civil Defense Corp staged a day long anti-illegal immigration rally that drew "just a few dozen people."
What to make of this? Is the public suffering issue fatigue over illegal immigration? Or is illegal immigration the herpes of political issues that never goes away and is just waiting to inflame itself in another painful attack?
With McCain weak on illegal immigration (only slightly stronger than Obama), is Bob Barr onto something?

2008 Elections

1. Why bring it up when you have two pro-illegal candidates? Both will provide hollow rhetoric and neither will do anything.
2. It's the economy stupid. People are more worried about the economy and the potential for a Democratic takeover in Washington that will rival what has occurred in Sacramento. Taxes would go through the roof. Liberal judges will pack the bench. Illegal immigration is a backburner issue that many voters are willing to put aside in order to get McCain and avoid an Obama presidency.
