Bob Huff Blasts Demcrats On Budget Impasse

This came over the transom yesterday from Assemblyman Bob Huff:
Most people don't realize the Legislature has the authority to keep the money flowing at the previous year's level even without a budget in place.
The intermediate care facilities that serve the disabled across the state are almost entirely funded through the state Medi-Cal program. As we argue about the budget, their funding stops. With the absence of a budget, reimbursement to critical health service providers to meet payroll, pay for medications, food and electricity or other operating expenses stops.
"Last year's budget delay put funding on hold for Medi-Cal providers, nursing homes, adult day care centers,
child care agencies and others across the state. "We should not allow hundreds of these homes across the state to be among the earliest casualties of the budget stalemate," said Huff.
Assemblyman Huff is Chairman of the Assembly Republican Caucus. He represents portions of Orange, Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties.
Assemblyman Huff criticizes Democrat-controlled Legislature for failure to fund critical programs during budget stalemate
Bill would fund critical services while the Legislature works toward a budget
Sacramento, CA (August 29, 2008) - Assemblyman Bob Huff (R-Diamond Bar) today criticized the Democrat leadership for not allowing AB 24 XXX (Houston) to be heard on the Assembly floor for a vote. This measure would make sure state money keeps flowing for critical services during a budget stalemate like we are now experiencing.
"In the event of an extended budget delay, it is important that we do not hold hostage those who provide critical services to the disabled, the vulnerable, and others reliant on government-supported health services," stated Assemblyman Bob Huff.
