Villa Park City Council Race Has Some Familiar Faces

I am down in San Diego for a big basketball tournament and am sort of taking a vacation at the same time when I am not at one of our games. I have not stopped following local elections though and do plan to make a post tonight that is a recap in the week of filing at the OC Registrar of Voters.
It is no surprise to see W. Richard Ulmer running for City Council in Villa Park as he has one term left before he is termed out. What is interesting is that Willard "Bill" MacAloney who was on the council from 2000-2004 serving as the Mayor in 2001.
There is an open seat now as a result of Richard Freschi vacating his seat in June. Freschi won a seat on the Serrano Water Board and cannot serve on both a Water Board and City Council based on what I know based on precedent that has been set. Although he is off the council for now he could conceivably run again in the future as he has one term left before he is termed out.
I had the pleasure of meeting Bill MacAloney and his wife back during the 2006 election cycle. They were both extremely nice people and have a great deal of passion for Villa Park. Obviously depending on who else files before the filing period end I would think that it would be tough to defeat him in a race for an open seat.
W. Richard Ulmer has also appears to be supporting a potential school bond proposal for the Orange Unified School District (Their 3rd in the last few years). This position could be very interesting in Villa Park should Ulmer be challenged. The last Measure A bond was defeated mainly as a result of strong opposition by the voters in Villa Park.
