The Darrell Nolta Drinking Game
Posted by: Jubal | 07/15/2008 11:29 AM
While watching the Board of Supervisors meeting online, I had a brainstorm on how to make watching paint dry more entertaining: the Darrell Nolta drinking game.
It's simple: every time Clerk of the Board Darlene Bloom announces Darrell Nolta has asked to speak on an agenda item, those watching at home take a swig of brew. Since Darrell speaks on virtually every agenda item, viewing Board deliberations would rapidly become a very intoxicating experience.
This could catch on with local College Republican and Democrat clubs, and spark a renewed interest in county government amongst barflies throughout Orange County.

Jubal-
That is an amazing idea! I was just commenting on Mr. Nolta and his love for speaking on everything in the BOS Meetings.
Perhaps we expand it to take a swig everytime Karen Finn speaks and says "My Husband is a Police Officer"
The Supervisors should control him a little better. He walks on them and runs that forum nowadays -- nobody stops him. That wouldn't have been like that a few years ago.
By the way Darrell, there is real business at hand here, stop slowing the board meetings to a crawl and making them go till the afternoon just because you don't have much to do on Tuesdays...
Didn't Darrell get a job recently? I understood he was going to Sacramento as a Policy Analyst; in which case we would be spared some of his lectures.
Great game, and add the Finn one as well LOL
Sometimes I wish there were more Darrell Nolta's. There are too many apathetic voters who never even know who their elected officials are, never attend any meetings, don't vote, evade jury duty, are apolitical, and make life for the rest of the country miserable because they all stand with their hands out waiting for the "government to do something for them". Maybe he's just making up for the rest of the (a)pathetic, NON interested citizens of Orange County who couldn't care less about what happens in local government. Thanks Darrell, you are probably making up for at least a few of them that should be interested!
Whatever Darrell. Stop wasting our time.
can you say Kathy Schlicht...Missio Viejo
If you suddenly see the Supervisors taking a swig of "water" every time Nolta speaks, you know why. I suspect they need it. Staff too.
Maybe if he just had a job, like other taxpayers, he would be at work.
At least Charles Griffin, the guy who talk about "mag lev" train on EVERY airport issue, is a retired engineer -- but I think all of our Gadfly's are members of the "Wack-Pack"
Just tired of them wasting our time to see themselves on TV or hear themselves pretend to watchdog.
I am not Darrell Nolta. I have known him for several years however. He has a Masters in Engineering. How many meetings have you attended? How many items on agendas have you read or researched? Do you know who your elected officials are (maybe only those who participate on this blog would know)? Do you know who you are voting for and WHY in November? (Only those on this blog might know). But there are several hundred thousands of people out there that are clueless.
Just this past weekend I saw an American flag hanging upside down on a home near my neighborhood. I went up to the door and asked if they knew the flag was upside down. Did you know ... they didn't know that it mattered which way was up.... yea. They did come out and re-string the flag to have the stars on top however, just under the pressure of someone asking them.
No, again, I am not Darrel Nolta.
My point? At least he's paying attention. Perhaps sometimes we get tired of hearing him comment on each item and say it is "very very important", but then again if it were not, why would it be on an agenda for an elected body to review?
I think he has a right to speak as often as he cares to...I' will listen, or not, but at least he is informed, and cares to address things. At least he pays attention to these "very important" things.
Nuf' said. I just like to defend the right to free speech.
Many 5th floor staffers have been playing a version of this game (sans alcohol of course) for years. But it's still funny to hear about coming from other people too.
Anonymous, you have an excellent point. Sometimes people become annoyed by a person or event, to the extent that they don't appreciate the effort and diligence that it took to to say what needs to be said. We may not agree on what is being said, but everyone else has the same right to exercise their freedom to speak on issues that they are passionate about. BTW, I know you aren't Darryl, because I believe his name is being spelled wrong. ;>)
Also, I am not Darryl Nolta either.
