Poizner Makes it (somewhat) Official at Hagman's Event

I just got back from Curt Hagman's fundraiser at the Nixon Library. Over the past month many OC politicos have been hearing/reading other folks' accounts (like the one written by Senator Battin, click here to read) about Curt's future potential as a Republican leader in Sacramento. People who were either on Larry's side during the primary or just stayed out, had their first chance to get a feel for Hagman today.
Besides the usual fundraiser chatter, two things jumped out at me (besides the obvious fact that they raised a lot of money):
- during Curt's speech introducing Steve Poizner, Curt stated that part of the reason Poizner was there tonight was to announce his 2010 Gubernutorial run
- Poizner's speech, in which he re-iterated that he is running for Governor, was by far his best that I've ever heard (and I've seen him 4-5 times)
I don't know if this was his official announcement or not, but it sure sounded like his campaign is ready to go, and it was obvious that they wanted everyone to know it. His stump speech, if this is what he used today, is very well rehearsed. If this wasn't the official announcement, I would expect one very shortly.

Didnt Steve Poizner used to be a Democrat?
Mayor Curt Hagman was great in delivering his speech.... packed with heart- touching sincerity with clear vision to bring about tangible solutions to help solve our current state problems.
California is currently a very blue state. The only way to "win the argument" is to convert Democrats to Republicans. Thus, the "Steve Poizner used to be a Democrat" line would seem to be a good thing.
As we've proven time and again, OC Conservative values simply can not currently win statewide in CA. That doesn't mean we abandon our principles; far from it.
But it does mean we face a difficult choice each election until we can adapt/spread our ideas wider: do we stay true to the vision and lose the election, or do we deem a candidate "close enough for government work" and use them to move the debate, and hopefully the election, our way?
Tylerh:
I think the key, rather, is in winning over DTS voters. I'd say most California Democrats are not winnable to our side.
Curt will do a fine job balancing the two camps together without compromising on our traditional family value.
I think developing a good communication channels to the general public/youths should be the one single most important agenda for our party's future growth.
We need to be more inclusive but must protect our principle conservative foundations with state wide educational campaign.
People need to hear our good messages loud and clear.... God, Family and Freedom coupled with pro business, small government and less taxation! Surprisingly, many Dem. christians/ latino catholics also agree with our principle ideologies once explained to them in detail.
