"Irvine School Principal Charged With DUI Resigns ".
This is a sad day.
I know Ms. Bower. She was my kids' principal for several years, and she was a Fantastic principal. I swear she knew the first name of every kid at Meadow Park. The first day of classes she would walk up and down the lines of kids, asking them questions about their summer, remembering their likes and foibles from the prior spring.
The kids adored her: she would play handball during recess. She engendered intense loyalty from many of her teachers, and would engage in USC/UCLA pranks and counter-pranks with them.
The principal she replaced, (a recovered alcoholic, interestingly), had upset many teachers and antagonize parents; Ms. Bower righted the ship and got Meadow Park going again in the right direction.
None of this excuses her DUI: our laws apply equally to Beloved Principals and Miscreants alike. Still, the Irvine schools lose today a competent administrator with a giant heart who touched a great many lives, including my daughters.
A sad day.
