Call it the Late Park - OC Register

Register Editorial writer Steve Greenhut opinions about the slow progress of the Great Park:
In reality, most Orange Countians are perfectly content believing Agran [about Great Park progress] rather than their own eyes. After all, they never wanted a park. They wanted anything but an airport. And that's exactly what they have.
The El Toro Info site comments: The voters didn't want a second county airport in addition to John Wayne. Given the slump in air travel, which is now below pre-9-11 levels, voters were wise to reject the multi-billion dollar airport project. There is nothing wrong with the voters getting what they want.

"most Orange Countians are perfectly content believing Agran [about Great Park progress] rather than their own eyes"
LOL Len. Speak for yourself. I think you have it backwards. Most people don't believe anything Larry says. Besides the hot air balloon, what else has been accomplished at the Park by Larry the Great except hype?
Agran dissembling on the Great Park goes back at least to the fall of 2000, when he was censured by his fellow Council members for leaking to the press a bogus study reporting overly optimistic financial projections for the Great Park.
The Irvine Tattler has obtained an audio copy of the October 13, 2000 meeting where Agran is censured. Although it runs nearly three hours, it's a fascinating listen because it's a dark portent of things to come. Agran smears, he dissembles, he stalls, he even exploits his son Ken to disrupt the Council meeting for over a half-hour by refusing to leave the podium while attacking the other Council members and the City Attorney.
The article and the audio recording are at:

It really is an embarrassment that the person in this audio tape was handed political control of Irvine less than a month later. And it's been downhill from there.
Allan, you need to read the post more carefully. The words about OC residents being content to believe Agran are Steve Greenhut's, not mine. If anyone has it backwards, it is Steve, not me.
If you follow the link to Steve's editorial you will see his context. If you follow the link to my website you will see that I am not pleased with what has happened at El Toro since the passage of Measure W.
Does anyone know what the plans are for the amphitheater at the great park? I was really hoping we would get something that would blow the Hollywood Bowl away.
We definately need something better that the Verizon amphitheater. Who played today? I was driving north on the 405 and I had never seen the traffic backed up on the south bound side like it was today.
Sorry for confusing you Len with being a Larry apologist.
More like the Great Park "lite". Not a dam thing has been accomplished (cept a big hot air balloon that takes you up to see what has not been accommplished) in all these years and millions of dollars have been spent. Such a shame and a sad waste.
