A Tip of the Cap to Debbie Cook

It is being reported on several sites (notably here, here and here) that Debbie Cook's quarterly filings shw her outraising Republican incumbent Dana Rohrabacher for California's 46th congressional seat. According to Total Buzz, "Rohrabacher raised $78,712 from April 1 through June 30th. Cook collected $92,990 in campaign contributions." Ms. Cook is to be commended for her fundraising prowess and the energy she brings to this campaign. If it is true that Congressman Rohrabacher is taking his seat for granted, his laissez faire attitude may make it possible for the Congressman to spend more time surfing during the 111th Congress.
That said, not too much should be read into these numbers. First, as also noted in Total Buzz, "Rohrabacher has amassed $323,966 so far for his re-election bid to an 11th term compared to the $157,269 Cook has raised in an effort to unseat him." Cook's quarterly numbers arguably show some momentum for her candidacy, however, if cash is king, Rohrabacher still maintains a two-to-one margin in cash on hand, which is the accurate measure of resources at a candidate's disposal.
Second, Cook's numbers come on the heels of aggressive fundraising and her anointing as a darling of the left. She should be reporting strong numbers. In contrast, Rohrabacher's own efforts have been descrbed as not being "meaningful" and "lazy" and yet, his quarterly contributions were only $14,000 below that of Cook. If Rohrabacher felt any sort of urgency or elected to expend comprable energies in soliciting contributions, his numbers should easily exceed those of his opponent.
That said, laziness is not one of the seven deadly sins for naught and Rohrabacher should make a showing that he is giving this campaign the seriousness that voters demand when they are being courted for their votes.

Debbie is an extreme anti-business environmental leftist. Not too much call for that in this heavily Republican district.
And a hat tip back at you, Joseph, we are working hard out here. Of course this anonymous commenter is ignorant as mud. Is Debbie actually an extreme anti-business environmentalist, or did she run a successful business for two decades, confuse her critics with her canny and profitable oil investments, support many sustainable development plans while on council, continue to outdo Dana in fundraising, all while fighting with notable success for the local environment - actually, there is a "call" for a competent fiscal conservative who can do all that in this moderate, beach-loving district full of wavering Republicans... Still, that name - "Cook is goosed." That's kind of funny. Just stick with the funny names, pal.
There's really not that much enthusiasm for Dana Rohrabacher, even over here, is there?
Dana needs to stay out of the headlines and he might just get by another election. Everytime he opens his mouth or shows up at an event he embarasses himself and his district. He should run on the office, look dignified (loose the funny hats) and enjoy the win.
If he tries to really run a campaign in his district he will go down in the flames that will be engulfing congressional races across the country. Also if he gets really active in fund raising, you might see democratic national congressional fundraising begin to flow for Mayor Cook to offset his $$$ lead. Not sure Dana could withstand external money and publicity. Best for him to lay low...
Ah! Or is that just what we want him to think, just asking?
I think Dana is having what Phil Gramm calls a "mental recession."
I usually comment anonymously. This time I feel like taking on all you liberal Dana-bashers. I have attended many functions where the Honorable Dana has spoken. I was actually moved to tears at one such event where he spoke with such conviction about his love of America. While others were asking for his autograph, I just thanked him for loving America and gave him a hug. Now you may criticize that all you like. But when a man with his convictions runs (and apparently you haven't attended too many functions to hear him speak) and expresses his beliefs, I am of the opinion that the audience should (and did) give him a standing ovation and ask him to run for President. We need someone that LOVES America who will take their oath of office seriously and protect and DEFEND the United States and the constitution and laws of OUR country. That, I find is the measure of a true conservative and we have damn few of them around these days.
You Liberals may feel free to take your Debbie Cook idolization to a more liberal place so I can keep my blood pressure down. I'll stop now, I think I need to chill.

Dana for President, Vivian. That's a good one. I think I remember hearing about that. And I think I know what was meant that day by "loving America."
You chill now, we don't want anyone to get hurt.
