Sup. Nguyen On Her Vote For Sandra Hutchens

This came over the transom a little while ago from Sup. Janet Nguyen:
An fuller explanation from Pat Bates and we'll hit the trifecta.
In any case, I join her in wishing Sheriff-designate Hutchens success.
Orange County Supervisor Janet Nguyen expressed her views on the appointment of Chief Sandra Hutchens for Orange County Sheriff:
"This was one of the most difficult decisions that I've made since being in office. Both Chief Paul Walters and Chief Sandra Hutchens are highly qualified for the position. However, in Chief Hutchens, we have a uniquely qualified individual who, from being out of the County, can give our department a fresh eye in dealing with the issues that we have, yet she lives in Orange County, so she is familiar with law enforcements needs and the public perceptions of law enforcement, and the OCSD in particular, in Orange County."
"As someone who has risen through the many functions in a county sheriff's department including having worked as a jailer for many years, Chief Hutchens is intimately familiar with the workings of and demands on such a department. The county jail system and the operation of such a system is different from the way a city jail is run, so we need someone who is familiar in running a county system."
"Since the county sheriff's department serves more of a regional law enforcement function, it is important that we have someone who is familiar in that role, especially in the context of Homeland Security and the need for multi-agency coordination in a post 9/11 world."I appreciate Sup. Nguyen providing a fuller accounting of her vote for Sandra Hutchens. I don't agree with her vote and it would have been preferable if she and her colleagues Supervisors Moorlach and Bates had provided more fulsome explanations yesterday, but she made her choice and that's the way it goes.
"As someone who has extensive experience representing the Deputies and as part of a Command Team, Chief Hutchens is well equipped to lead the OCSD. In addition, with 29 years of experience in dealing with contracted cities where at one point she oversaw 40 contracted cities, Chief Hutchens has the requisite experience to serve her different constituencies in South County."
I believe that Sandra Hutchens will prove to be a stellar Sheriff. The decision has been made; we, as a county, can move forward much more effectively if we focus on the work that needs to get done and assist Sheriff Hutchens in any way we can.
An fuller explanation from Pat Bates and we'll hit the trifecta.
In any case, I join her in wishing Sheriff-designate Hutchens success.

That right Matt.(OMG! I can't belive I said that.) Let's help her help us. She could use all the support we can help garner to help a County we all cherish. Walters is a good man and his valuable input would be most appreciated I'm sure.
Just more games from Janet. I hope the stupid voters of the 1st are sorry for making her another four years. Dina would have voted for the best candidate and not played these silly games. Shame on Janet for acting this way. In four years it is time to get elect someone else.
This girl oughta vote for Paul Walters. God help us all!
If you were in the BOS meeting yesterday, it was clear Janet was voting as told by her handlers at the CWLA...great spin after the fact! Too bad they hadn't worked on a better script with Janet, Pat and John, so they could spit out the spin the women's lobby had cobbled together.
Janet's strong feminist ideology is danger to our community!
Mikeldit’s self-congratulatory statement “As for me, there was a sense the county had just done something pretty exceptional and pretty good” describing Hutchens’ selection is pure hyperbole.
Pretty Exceptional would have been to have scrapped the “paper cut” criteria in order to consider candidates with better leadership credentials, rather than the magic number nine.
Rhetorically we asked the question, why the magic number 9?
The reason is, to satisfy Hunt's proponents and include Hutchens, so the process “appears” to be objective – this is no Monday Morning Quarterbacking – we told the board as much, even BEFORE we obtained the official scoring matrix!
The bottom line is that Nguyen and Moorlach ignored their district and constituents and it took them several hours to be able to invent and craft excuses for their votes. They did what was best for them, not what was best for their people. This is a gender issue, it is about a betrayal of trust.
BTW, why does Janet care so much about 'contracted' cities? She has none in her district. Proof again that she voted according to someone else's agenda.
To the question: “why does Janet care so much about 'contracted' cities?”, Hint: AOCSD
I meant to say this is NOT a gender issue (in my 11:53 post) Apologies.
Oh CRA (Z) Republican I see you have crawled out from under your rock to once again criticize our Supervisor. Too bad your "Sweet Dina" didn't win, and especially with all the predictions and polls you posted! Wow, I wonder what happened? Where did you get those poll numbers from before that election, we want to be sure we don't use that pollster in the future! That rock was a good place for you, I suggest you use it for your future home.
I'm on the Van side of the food fight and voted for Dina but I am glad Janet didn't vote for Walters. He is a liberal democrat from a city with the highest crime in the county. My guess is that Santa Ana jails don't screen for immigration status either.
I think Janet voted her conscience, not because Hutchins is a woman. If I were on the BoS, I would have voted for someone that had NOT worked within our OC System, preferably someone who had broad experience working for the County in the Sheriff's area. I think it was a good decision. Nothing against Mr. Walters, I'm sure he was an excellent candidate, and a good leader. But a fresh set of eyes on our OC Sheriff system by someone with Hutchins background is, I hope, what we needed and true reform can actually be accomplished.
Anon.4:28 My sweet home is in Santa Ana next your friend Arturo de Piedra.
Janet will continue to learn how to be a responsible, mature public servant only when she can understand the word "HUMILITY"
Dear CRA(Z) Republican - I thought perhaps by now you would have learned that.
