Primary Update: It Looks Like Sup. Janet Nguyen Is Free and Clear

Posted by: Jubal | 06/03/2008 10:05 PM

It seems counter-intuitive to have an election result in the 1st Supervisor District that is clean and clear, but that seems to be exactly what is happening tonight.

74 of 285 precincts are in, the Sup. Janet Nguyen maintains the same wide margin over nearest rival Dina Nguyen:

If there's a way for Dina Nguyen to overcome a lead of that size, I'd like someone to explain it to me. Otherwise, it's a hard-earned congratulations to Supervisor Janet Nguyen on her re-election.

UPDATE (11:06 p.m.): The latest round of returns were just posted, and Janet has 56.9%. Two-thirds of the precincts are in, and her opponents haven't made a dent in Janet's lead.

This one is definitely over.

Well deserved win Janet!

Perhaps Van Tran will "understand it" now. The age of politics by intimidation and commie baiting are behind us. Perhaps he can get it, that dirty politics lost this one. Dina wasn't that great of a choice for a candidate to begin with, but then Van Tran has done more with less of a candidate and actually got them elected. What I see is his rock solid constiuency in Little Saigon is folding up their solid support of someone so vindictive and breaking up the machine. Thank goodness, I applaud the Viet community, my hat is off to all of those who have opened their eyes and seen what has happened and have struck a blow against it. And to all the rest of those absentee voters who voted ahead of time and made the right choice for Janet Nguyen, thank you too!

But student/cra republican/etc said everyone hates Janet and Dina was leading by 70 point in the latest poll?

Anonymous said:

Where is CRA (Z) Republican now with all of his polls of how Dina was so far ahead? Have you gone to bed with an ice pack on your head?

Jimmy Camp said:

Dina should ask for a re-count. If Schroeder picks up the tab, I bet I could find 20,000 votes.....

dnn said:

137 precints with 57%, is there any chance for Dina to win?

Anonymous said:

Let's hope not.

Minh said:

Even if Janet wins, Assemblyman Van Tran will never concede to her. I can only envision another two years of Janet thrashing. Assemblyman Tran will not easily capitulate.

dnn said:

2/3 are in and Janet still lead 56.9%? no way, I thought Dina is gonna win according to her friends.

Recall is on the way.

dnn said:

When the absentee ballot will be counted or it's already include?

Vivian,

Janet did win tonigt but don't try to overeach for something else other than her good campaign and the early absentees. Take a look at Truong Diep. Looks like he's in.

Dina did not do as bad with what she had, which was not nearly as much as Janet.

Van Tran lost big tonight said:

How many of Van Tran's endorsements paid off? I'm just curious.

Where is this Vietnamese army he can supposedly muster?

CONGRATULATIONS JANET, GREAT WIN!

The OC GOP may get what they wished for with Janet, but the experience of Maddox, Tran, and Jimmy Camp will one by one happen to the rest of her supporters.

Enjoy the bed you have made. Something tells me the party won't be better off for it.

Next,

You took the words right out of my mouth! Time will be our truth teller. To liberally borrow a phrase from President Bush, Sr.: This Janet thing will also pass.

27% for Dina. Looks like only a little over 1/4 of the Vietnamese community supports Van Tran & friends.

Anon 12:05 PM - Yes shouldn't have been difficult for Truong Diep to win. He was the only Viet name on that list, and I'm sure he drew a large number of their votes. Do notice that he didn't come in first, second or third. But he's in. Congrats to him. He lives at the Central Committee meetings and is a constant presence at every thing "politic" as far as his reach can take him. But remember he is a Van Tran camper. So it will now depend on his performance as to how much further he gets. If Marsh takes the Judgeship in November, Truong can run for his dream job as a Westminster City Councilman at a special election and in my estimation he would probably take that too, as special elections are not well attended but their is a large number of absentee voters who are Vietnamese, and they DO vote. But you might wish to watch him in action at a board meeting before you decide to vote for him. He needs to adjust his seriousness meter, do some homework and be engaged in the process.

Godfather,

The problem with your comment is obvious. At best, the Viet turn out is 47% of the total votes, just like the last Special. I doubt if Janet won the Viet votes. At best, she evenly shared them with Dina and Hoa Tran.

Janet won big outside the Viet community because she had the financial resource -- more than twice than Dina's and six times more than Hoa's, to campaign often and early in the Hispanic and Caucasian community.

RDRR said:

I wonder how many of the above comments are Gilliard? Get a life

Huh? said:

RDRR, sour grapes?

I am guessing that the answer to your question is about 19 less than the number of above comments that are from Tran and his staff!

We'll See said:

I bet Dina won the Vietnamese vote, but Janet cleaned up with everyone else. If the Dems fielded any serious candidate Janet would have been in trouble, but Hoa's performance was laughable. Janet led in endorsements, money, mail and had the power of incumbancy.

Still, I give Assemblyman Van Tran credit for trying to exact some political justice on someone who so clearly stabbed him in the back.

We'll see if Janet ends up being the young, female, minority conservative superhero that the New Majority and Lincoln Club thinks she is.

look like she win big time and Tran Thai Van and Lawyer people can cry big time about doing hardball politic with audio coco maybe it time for him out pick up the golf ball

Well let's just ask the ROV; last election in '06 they had statistics on the voters by ethnic identities and it was posted on the OC Blog continuously as the votes came in. There was someone in Truong's office that was able to get these facts and figures from the ROV, shouldn't we be able to obtain them also?

Anonymous said:

Where is "Student" today and where is CRA Republican with all their caustic remarks about Dina and her huge poll numbers? They were annoying and enjoyed sticking in their knives to pain us - it is our turn now but you hide? Cowards!

Anonymous said:

Well, this just has to show how little these blog comments affect actual voters. I wonder if Dina ever called Janet or if she sticks by her quote in the Register that she was waiting to see if she would win after all the votes were counted. What a sore loser. Even Hillary eventually met with Obama!

Congratulations Supervisor Nguyen from the OJ family!
