Historic Nature of "Heller Decision" On Gun Rights

"Justice Scalia's opinion is exemplary for the way it was reasoned. It will be studied by law professors and students for years to come. It is the clearest, most careful interpretation of the meaning of the Constitution ever to be adopted by a majority of the Supreme Court."That's a remarkable claim, but after reading Georgetown University law professor Randy Barnett's excellent column in today's WSJ.com, I don't believe it an unreasonable one.
Professor Barnett -- whose work is cited in both Justice Antonin Scalia's majority opinion and Justice Breyer's dissent -- predicts Heller will be extended to the states, and that most existing gun regulations that fall short of a ban will survive a Heller-based challenge.

The decision itself is like a walk through history. Far more interesting then any commentary could ever hope to be.
While I applaud the majority's decision, I am distressed that four associate justices opined contrarily. Had a liberal administration appointed the last two justices, we would be without the Second Amendment. Pretty damned scary...
