Two New Members Appointed To OC Parks Commission

Last week, the OC League of Cities's City Selection Committee met last week. On its agenda were the Leagues' appointments to the OC Parks Commission.
The League gets two: one representing coastal OC cities, one representing inland cities. San Clemente Councilman Steve Knoblock and Huntington Beach Councilman Gil Coerper sought the former; Mission Viejo Mayor Trish Kelley and Costa Mesa Councilwoman Wendy Leece sought the latter.
Congratulations are in order to Knoblock and and Kelley for winning the appointments, and they will presumably join the commission at our next meeting.
As I mentioned in a post last week, these two appointments mark the almost complete turnover of the OC Parks Commission. Of the six other commissioners in place when I was appointed more than 18 months ago, only one -- 4th District Commissioner Dick Davenport -- remains.
An interesting postscript: I learned that Knoblock originally decided to seek the appointment a few weeks ago specifically to prevent Huntington Beach Mayor Debbie Cook's re-appointment. He called her to let her know he was running, and she let him know she wasn't seeking re-appointment in any case.
Debbie is termed off the HB City Council this year, so even if she sought re-appointment to the OC Parks Commission, she'd still be off in December anyway. I doubt she intended to seek re-appointment, and if she had any such inclination, six more months on the OC Parks Commission probably didn't seem worth fighting for.

These are exciting times to work with Mark Denny and his Team at OC Parks. I look forward to working with Trish Kelley and Steve Knoblock.
