OC's Next Sheriff

Is this like "American Idol"? Or "Survivor"?
Hey, is this the Sandi who worked Lynwood with Guy M. I remember going to her wedding where she exchanged vows with her dearly beloved on top of a Jacuzzi and if I remember correctly she married this guy so he woundn't have to testify against her... just the rumor I remember when I was working with Dave F. and Dave C. back in the day. I hope the Board is not serious about her as a candidate at least until they do some checking with the people that worked with her..... I don't envy the Board right about now. Good luck to the all the finalist
Hm. Interesting. Almost what I expected. Three from LA , one from San Berdo, one from Utah and three OC guys. All except two are retired or close to it. Three all told have supervisory experience in a large jail system. Of those three, two had experience 15 years ago. One is a politician that ran for Sheriff and US congress. Lost both. One is a Carona prodigy. One endorsed Carona as an official. All but two don't like their own Department. Only one had the courage to lay his career on the line and garnered the collective wisdom of 100,000 voters. Now we have 5 making that decision.
I have known Craig Hunter for a long time and know him to be an extremely professional and innovative law enforcment manager. Anaheim PD has a nationwide reputation for quality police work and community problem solving. The concern is how willing is the current OCSD managment and line personnel willing to embrace change. No matter who gets appointed there is a very long and tedious road to still be travelled. I wish whoever gets appointed the best of luck.
I encourage everyone to look further. Anaheim has a sizeable jail, with pay-to-stay, ICE agents, Parole contract, Video arraignment and correctional officers. They book over 6,000 people each year.
When Hunter commanded the 175 bed jail he inherited a similar nightmare as OCSD and he turned it around. Although not as large as a county jail, the state regulations are the same everywhere. He even built a small jail (10 cells) at Disney Station and all in compliance with Title 15 and 24. Ask anyone who worked under Hunter’s command in the jail and you will learn about true leadership and progressive change.
OCSD has plenty of jail "experts" who are just waiting to get behind a new progressive leader like Chief Hunter.
If Hunter is such an upstanding guy, where was he during the Carona election? Why wasn't he speaking up and standing along side Bill Hunt - or Ralph Martin for that matter? It's no secret he was a wink and a nod for Mike Carona like so many others.
So now after letting Carona get away with all the corruption that all OC law enforcement knew about and was called out by Bill Hunt, Craig Hunter wants us to believe he's the choir boy who's going to fix things? LOL! What a joke!
He wouldn't speak up during the election, he wouldn't speak up after the election, now that he sees a potential way to sneak into the position, he's making a play for it. Hunter and Walters from Santa Ana should start their own comedy duet because those of us in the know are laughing so hard it hurts to see these two Carona supporters vie for the same seat.
Personally, I don't think Hunter is the best candidate for Sheriff however I think you're reaching by claiming he is trying to "sneak" into the position. At least he was smart enough not to take on an incumbent Sheriff with political ties all over the county. Hunt ran against Carona who handed him every opportunity to win yet only garnered 26 percent of the vote. And don't give me that cr*p about .9% away from a runoff. He was lucky to get that close.
There are lots of reasons to consider Hunt for the job. Unfortunately there are lots of reasons not to. I hate to agree with him, but Steven Greenhut makes some valid points about why not. The fact that he rang the alarm bell is not enough to give him the job of Sheriff. I'v listened to him and he's clearly grown exponentially yet he is still not close to the caliber of the other candidates. Maybe some time as a Captain or division level commander is what he needs to grow and develop into the leadership role he apires to.
Reading the self-described platform of Bill Hunt- it's chock full of ridiculous spin. He's basing solutions to problems that are not even properly cited in research or factual information. When I see that a candidate does not even do his homework correctly and make claims that are utter non-truths I lose all respect. I had considered supporting him until I saw that lack of attention to detail, and at least basing your premises to solutions on reality not purely spin. The statistics that he quotes are nonsense, only to amuse and purchase support....shame on him. He had me going for a hot minute.
Jack Anderson keeps backing out of the past jail problems by claiming he was in charge of operations (patrol, etc.)
The recent Grand Jury report regarding the Emergency Operations Center at Loma Ridge said that the sheriff's department has known about potentially devastating problems at the Emergency Operations Center for OVER a year and "corrections have not been forthcoming".
Wasn't this under Anderson's direct control?
