SD33 Mailbox: Harry Puts Mimi On Santa's Naughty List
Posted by: Jubal | 05/14/2008 5:17 PM
It was a big political mail day at Casa de Jubal.Three pieces of mail from the Mimi Walters for Senate campaign.
One piece of of mail her opponent, Harry Sidhu.
And an IE supporting Harry.
First the Sidhu hit piece. it's actually a pretty humorous approach to hammering her for voting, with every other member of the Assembly GOP Caucus -- to elect Fabian Nunez as Assembly Speaker:
The Walters campaign hit Harry again on illegal immigration -- twice. Once with a big, four-color, fold-out comparison piece between Walters and Sidhu (it's too big to scann and I don;t have the PDF yet).
The second hit is a letter that came in an envelope labeled "Orange County Grand Jury Report" and again slams Harry Sihdu as being weak on illegal immigration.
Just a few more weeks of this.
UPDATE (9:20 p.m. on 5/15): OK, perhaps this will settle the Great Back-of-the-Envelope Controversy of 2008:
The "Paid for by Friends of Mimi Walters" is pretty clearly placed.

Using Santa in a hit piece - that's just wrong! I think Sidhu is going to get a lump of coal in his stocking next Christmas.
Santa was so happy he could be a part of Harry's mail piece. He and Harry have become really good friends. Santa considers Harry his government counterpart, giving hundreds of gifts of public property. I know Santa and the elven unions are really looking forward to all of the gifts Harry can give from the State of California when he's elected to the State Senate.
It looks Mimi violates the "Sender identification Requirements" of the Political Reform Act by failing to identify the sender (her committee). (The address matches the address of her committee on the second letter.)
Rather than identifying her committee (required for "mass mailings" of 200 pieces or more), the letter falsely implies that it is from a government entity. The "presorted" bulk mail postage suggests that this letter was likely 200 pieces or more.
Identifying the sender as "ORANGE COUNTY GRAND JURY REPORT" would mislead most recipients into believing that this was sent by the Orange County Grand Jury, presumably a body assembled by the judicial branch.
One can only assume that her violation was willful (and not inadvertant), since her campaign is well-funded campaign and run by professionals.
I agree. This is another example of Walters efforts to intentionally mislead the public while violating the law.
Yes, this clearly is a violation of campaign laws and Mimi should be prosecuted for it. Typical Dave Gilliard stunt to throw his candidate under a legal bus.
Jubal -
Was there anything on the back of the Orange County Grand Jury mailer envelope?
Jubal, thank you for bringing it up. Walters does not care about the law. All she cares is to manipulate the voters and mislead them. She already apologized for her false attacs on Sidhu when she started the hit campaign.
Mimi is going to lose. Harry is the right choice for state senate.
Was there anything on the back of the Orange County Grand Jury mailer envelope?
Yes, it said "Mimi Walters for Senate" and had the campaign address.
Thank you Jubal for setting the record straight. Would you mind scanning the back of that envelope and posting it?
Thank you Jubal for setting the record straight.
Like a poster said - IT'S MISLEADING the voter into thinking that the sender was Orange County Grand Jury. I bet "Mimi Walters for Senate" and the campaign address was in small font in hope that a voter never finds it on the back of the envelope. It was intentionally designed this way. How many of us read the back of the envelope??? This is pathetic!
The envelope flap is in the back of the envelope! What the heck are you talking about?! People see the back of the envelope all the time when they're OPENING the envelope.
Looking at the scan, it's clear Jubal used his fingers to open the envelope, like most people. How does one do that without looking at the back of the envelope?!
Now you're just desperately grasping for straws. Pathetic!
The mailer was legal. Case closed. Does Harry have any other false accusations to throw out there?
Man, it's like visiting the monkey exhibit at the zoo with the Sidhu campaign. They're always throwing feces around.
Jubal - time to give the rules reading to 9:04 p.m. commenter.
Referring to the Sidhu campaign as "... monkey exhibit at the zoo...." Really now.
Oh come on. The statement was qualified. What a welterweight.
If Sidhu isn't a liberal, his campaign certainly acts liberal.
