SD33 Mailbox: 3 Mimi Mailers In 1 Day
Posted by: Jubal | 05/13/2008 3:01 PM
It was a banner day for Mimi Walters for Senate mail at Casa de Jubal today.
Three -- count 'em -- three Mimi Walters mailers slid through the mail slot.
I had already received a PDF of one of them and posted it last night.
The other two are a comparison piece festooned with Ronald reagan's picture and the California Republican Assembly logo:
The other piece is a positive one outlining Mimi's "Conservative Plan To Fix The State Budget":
I'm sure there's more to come.

Can I have an empty mailbox too? I also live in SD33 and I'm getting sick of the Mimi-Harry battle.
Harry lost my vote when he, in my opinion, went for the first low blow. That photoshop'd picture of cash in her hand was just plain juvenile. She ain't perfect--think the colorful pattern on the tickets hit piece--but at least she's not having to make the stuff up.
How many trees do they have to kill?
The Reagan piece is really the game winning three pointer.
Now, I'm confused here. Walters calls Sidhu's accusations false - 'No Truth'. So I looked closer at Harry's brochures at http://joinharry.com/in_print.asp and I have the following questions:
1. Did Mimi Walters skip more than 100 votes including (a) to help fight illegal immigrants, (b) to help increase public safety, (c) to help protect our privacy? Since Walters did not deny it, I assume she did skip these votes.
2. Did Mimi Walters vote twice to make liberal democrat Fabian Nunez speaker of the Assembly? I assume she did.
3. Did Mimi Walters increase her travel budget by 51%? I assume she did.
4. Did Mimi Walters sided with the ACLU and video game lobbyists
when she voted against protecting under-age children
from sexually explicit and violent video games? I assume she did.
5. Did Mimi Walters after promising voters she would not accept a salary increase, voted for a pay hike? I assume she did.
6. Did Mimi Walters take nearly a million dollars from Sacramento special interests? Once again, I assume she did.
I understand why Mimi Walters is furious that Harry Sidhu educated voters about these facts. However, I did not hear Sidhu apologizing for making false accusations. I guess since they are not false, there is no reason to apologize, right?
So far the only apology I've heard was from Mimi Walters 'apologizing for her campaign attack on Harry Sidhu that was based on false information': http://joinharry.com/forms/newsletter.asp?idNewsletter=49
What do we call a person who practices such tactics? Oh yeah, we're not supposed to go there...
Please tell me why we should support Mimi Walters?? And no, I don't want to hear again 'because Harry was born in another country'.
GO HARRY! You're the right candidate for 33rd district!
You "assume," making an ... oh well, you know.
Actually, a citizens commission decides state legislators' salaries. Walters couldn't vote for her own pay hike. She could choose to accept a pay hike, which I don't have much of a problem with because most legislators spend at least 4 out of 7 days in the week hundreds of miles away from their families and they don't really make that much money. If you knew anything about the state legislature, you would know that.
I don't see Sidhu rejecting the special interest independent expenditures on his behalf. Surely he's aware that these special interests will consider it as good as a hard money campaign contribution. They'll probably think of it as better than a direct contribution because they aren't beholden to contribution limits. So, Sidhu's just as much on the special interest dole as anyone.
Harry Sidhu's campaign has been about nothing more than lies and distortions and his supporters, as evidenced by the comment above, make unrealistic assumptions and form wildly irrational conclusions.
I supposed you're right about the vote on pay hike. Jubal wrote in 2006 "But I am surprised at the poor political judgment involved in accepting a pay increase she (presumably) doesn't need." I agree with the gentleman.
Most legislators spend at least 4 out of 7 days in the week hundreds of miles away from their families, sons, daughters, cats, dogs etc., and they don't really make that much money. Oh poor things!! I think I'm going to burst in tears now... I guess we should stop dragging them to Sacramento.
If Walters and other wealthy legislators declined the pay increase they would save us taxpayers $144,000 a year per legislator. That's a lot of millions of our hard earned money. Last time I checked California was still in the hole.
When you write "Harry Sidhu's campaign has been about nothing more than lies" please be specific. I'll try to make it simple so even you can do it by answering 'Yes' or 'No'. Let's start with the beginning:
- Did Walters skip more than 100 votes including (a) to help fight illegal immigrants, (b) to help increase public safety, (c) to help protect our privacy?
- Did Walters vote twice to make liberal democrat Fabian Nunez speaker of the Assembly?
- Did Walters sided with the ACLU and video game lobbyists when she voted against protecting under-age children from sexually explicit and violent video games?
- Did Walters take nearly a million dollars from Sacramento special interests?
Now, it wasn't that hard, or was it?
No, you're well aware that many of those are probably committee reconsiderations and votes where the result was lopsided and predictable. Were any of her abstentions impactful on the overall result of these issues? No.
No, not a vote. I think this has been thoroughly hashed out by the FlashReport over the past two days.
No, she sided with business, the free market, and freedom of speech, which is admirable. Even the ACLU, like a broken clock, is right some of the time.
Finally, explain to me how an answer to your last question would be any different from anyone else in Sacramento. At least that money has been put in good conservative Republican hands, as opposed to liberal Democrat hands. Mimi Walters has been a conservative stalwart in the Assembly, twice receiving a 100% voting record from the California Republican Assembly. She's campaigned against the exploitation of eminent domain. Absent court charges of a quid pro quo relationship with those special interests you mention, your statement means diddily.
Now, time for you to answer my questions:
Has Harry Sidhu used or given away 1,252 government tickets to special events?
Has Harry Sidhu been endorsed by the Log Cabin gay Republican group?
Has Harry Sidhu been endorsed by the liberal California Congress of Republicans group?
Has Harry Sidhu been endorsed by dozens of public employee unions?
Has Harry Sidhu got any legislative experience or any experience in statewide affairs?
Has Harry Sidhu taken tens of thousands of dollars from Disney and other resort district special interest groups over which he has jurisdiction as a member of the Anaheim City Council?
