This just over the transom from Dave Gilliard's office....
Orange County Business Council Endorses Supervisor Janet Nguyen
GARDEN GROVE, CA -- The Orange County Business Council has endorsed the re-election of Supervisor Janet Nguyen in the First District, noting her "strong record of support for OCBC's business agenda."
Lucy Dunn, President and CEO of the Orange County Business Council said of Supervisor Janet Nguyen, "Her efforts on behalf of workforce development and improved infrastructure are aligned with OCBC's own priorities, and the Business Council is proud to support her efforts to continue this good work."
"I am very honored to receive the support of the Orange County Business Council and look forward to working with them and other business leaders to enhance Orange County's economic development and prosperity," stated Supervisor Nguyen.

Did anyone notice that the Chair of the DPOC endoresment committee is Alicia Berhow who also is the Director of Workforce Development at the OCBC? Berhow tried to have the endorsement of Hoa Van Tran blocked by the committee which ended up with a tie of no endorsement and endorsement two for two. This resulted in a no recommendation. This is a clear conflict of interest and a letter of complaint should be sent to the OCBC C/O Lucy Dunn by all those who care about open government.
I am neither a hardcore Republican nor Democrat yet the idiocy in this supervisor’s race is blown out of proportion; the contending candidate and incumbent are both unscrupulous persons. Regardless of who shall trounce her opposition, the position for 1st District supervisor is without an estimable nominee to serve the will of the constituents. The pugilism between the two candidates is harming the Vietnamese American community more than it should with this internal scuffle. Although sullied politics is common within the American Political arena, it is now permeated into the Vietnamese American community. While corruption and partisan affiliation are not anonymous to the Vietnamese, it has moved the local campaign to a more negative, ireful level of the higher office.
I believe that a politician, voted into office by the people is to serve the people rather than their affiliated party, however, this is not always the case. Without the support of the party, it is difficult to procure endorsement, financial backing, and public support. On the other hand, like any naïve citizen, I felt betrayed by the politician’s chicanery and devious machination. Yes, people are gullible to the signs and banners of the candidates fighting to serve the people. As of now, I am of a lost as to who to vote for.
The question is: Who is the lesser of two evils?
Minh,
Wecome to America. Politics is a contact sport. It is not cornered by the Viet community. So, you shouldn't set a double standard for the Viet and the non-Viet community.
Dear Minh:
Watching the machinations of the election process is an uneasy observation even for the most seasoned in political arenas. Just looking at our Presidential campaigns can cause the need for an antacid. The Republican's at least have decided on their candidate while the Dem's continue to hack each other up and bleed on our pathways (i.e. wear heavy boots).
The 1st Supervisorial race has been contentious since Janet Nguyen stepped out of the comfort zone of the Van Tran machine to be more independent. It has cost her a great deal of grief and money. But she has had the guts to stay the course and continue to do her job. The courts recognized the non-validity of her opponents cases and all have been discharged from the courts and shown to be without merit. Janet didn't file law suits. She had to defend against them. She has made a couple of mistakes, yes, but she has corrected them. The spotlight shines very brightly on every move she makes (or is accused of making) because her opponents are still very uncomfortable that a Viet candidate outside the "royal circle" has actually been elected, and has managed to serve her constiuency well.
Her detractors will continuously cite her alleged misconduct, accuse her of "fixing" the election for her win (but I think at least one of the many courts she was dragged through would have figured that out if it were true); and various other "crimes" which they blow out of proportion. Many in the Viet inner circles have committed much worse violations but you don't see that being blown out of proportion by Janet Nguyen; you don't see her repeatedly "reminding" people of their past errors.
This goes to the nature of the CHARACTER of who is doing what to whom and WHY.
I'm voting for the one I know to have the most character. She believes in family, marriage, low taxes, no new taxes, her brother serves in the military, she came here on a boat, she excelled in her studies as a college student, she works hard with every faction of her district and she, most important to me, is more even handed than her opponents. She is a woman who has succeeded by being tough enough to take just about every sling and arrow that has been thrown with much force at her. She's gutsy. And she has my vote. Janet Nguyen. It has not been her choice to have this ongoing scuffle with her Viet opponents. She has been a lady and pretty classy in just taking it and not slinging the mud back at them. Just from what I know, there would be plenty to sling back at them, however she has chosen the high road.
Take care to examine what her opposition says about her, because it has been, in my humble opinion, rather twisted and spun. Actually, I think they have taken "spin" to a whole new level. When you get down to the real facts without the spin? You don't see much that any other of her accusers have not already done and buried in their own pasts.
Although I am no defender of Dina Nguyen, her reputation precedes her. Her website, www.Dinaforsupervisor.com, espouses a person of moral integrity and lofty experience at the local level working with city officials and community service. Yet, I am stuck with awe at the ireful sentiment of the people that attempt to abase her character.
I insist on knowing the source to her allege mischievous character, which includes her mothering three children from three different men (I abstain from using the word father), her adultery with Andy Quach, and her intrusion into Quach’s domestic life. However, Quach should also take the heat for absorbing Dina’s ingression into his family and private life. I also ask (the blogger) how her private life affects her professional career as a public servant. From the like of Mayor Antonio Villarigosa of Los Angeles, his infidelity and private relationship with a Hispanic news reporter also compromised and slightly impeded his duties as Mayor of Los Angeles. While most bloggers write with impetuous knowledge of the candidates, this is not the jury to indict her (Dina) or the incumbent Janet Nguyen.
Is it plausible to find a tangential to this candidacy? Hoa Van Tran, a democrat/attorney with former military experience seems to be a decent candidate but his attack is superficial and hardly felt by the community. His name and reputation is anonymous and his speech is slightly lost in the crowd. I would love to vote for a qualified candidate but Hoa Van Tran is unknown and a democrat, Dina Nguyen has a tainted reputation and lack experience, and Janet Nguyen is infamous for her clash with Trung Nguyen and caused aversion among her own party.
How is it that The Democratic party of Orange County is involved in the OCBC endorsement process as well as the DPOC endorsement process? I smell something fishy here. Is Janet working with the Democrats for a party switch later this year?
The only person I suspect, "Janet Nugyen Democrat Said", of being a democrat, is you, certainly not Janet. If you have ever heard her speak, heard the heartfelt commitment in her, you would not have the audacity to say such a ludicrous thing. Go back under your rock.
