Daily News Roundup - 2008

The Times version of the story reports that "The growth in the budget will come primarily from spending on construction projects to upgrade John Wayne Airport and to restructure the program that distributes property tax revenue to cities."
The Register says "there will be reduced funds for juvenile probabtion camps, social services and health care."
I am left wondering why we are spending a half-billion dollars, that could be used elsewhere, on a 300,000 square foot third terminal at the airport when the county has no plans for expanding air service after the project is completed. The Chairman of the Board seeks to permanently limit the airport to a 10.8 million annual passenger (MAP cap) level of service negotiated with Newport Beach in 2003.
