Moorlach On Sheriff Interview Skirmishing

In this morning's "Moorlach Update" e-mail, Sup. John Moorlach addressed yesterday's intra-Supervisor skirmishing over the Sheriff interview process, as reported in thee OC Register:
How best to explain yesterday's Board meeting? We have two seasoned Supervisors that have been privately working with my office for some time now on our proposed protocols for May 27th's interviews of the Sheriff candidate finalists. The early proposal included sequestering. They politely worked with us up to late Monday afternoon as to why sequestering and adding core questions were important to the process. We accommodated their requests and felt positive that we had a strong sense of cooperation with a majority of the Board. We were trying to communicate and coordinate.
On Tuesday the other two Supervisors decided to protest the two referenced suggestions, even to the point of complaining about receiving the final version the afternoon before. Go figure. And then I got blamed for the ideas. You've got to love this job.
One of the earliest recommendations was to move the date of our final vote to June 3 to accommodate one Supervisor for her campaign schedule. Then that Supervisor announces that she will not even be present at that Board meeting. And another reminds us that we can vote on May 27. Of course we can. Fun life.
Bottom line? We have a compromise version of sequestering and at least three Supervisors can see to it that the same core questions are asked of each candidate. We have received a number of excellent questions from the public. It would be wise that each candidate have a chance to respond to a few standard inquiries to provide a consistent platform from which to evaluate them.
You have my take on Agenda Item S31B. You can also watch it on our County website. But, below is the OC Register's beat reporter's electronic take of the Board discussion. Let's hope we can improve our communication between Board offices in the future.
I haven't yet watched that segment of yesterday's Board meeting.

Moorlach just can't help but to come off as a pretentious jerk every time he opens his mouth.
He is a much better administrator than supervisor. In fact, he is horrible at it.
"We have two seasoned Supervisors that have been privately working with my office for some time now on our proposed protocols for May 27th's interviews of the Sheriff candidate finalists."
Isn't that a Brown Act violation?
Moorlach continues to lose one vote after the other. The fact is that other board members have grown tired of him and his Chief of Staff. They are tired of his tactics, grandstanding and last minute ambushes. Political waters create tough manuvering. Like it or not in order to advance your agenda you must be skilled at political manuvering: Moorlach and his team are severely limited in this skill.
As long as Moorlach and Mainero are seen as egotistical bullies their chances for success will continue to deminish.
