Judge Watch: "T-Rack Slate" Hits Mailboxes
Posted by: Jubal | 05/09/2008 4:00 PM
Voter communication is a bug hurdle facing Superior Court candidates. Direct mail is expensive, but raising sufficient money for a good direct mail program for judge is difficult, to put it mildly.
Four local judge candidates have dealt with that problem by sharing the costs of a "Team Rackauckas 2008" mailer, the brainchild of Brett Barbre, who is consultant for Superior Court Office 12 candidate Nick Thompson.
It's a big piece of mail -- about the same size as a place mat, and effective in grabbing voter attention. Since absentee ballots also arrived in homes this week, the hope is those early voters will look to "Team Rackauckas 2008" to guide their judicial votes.

OC Judge Races

Thanks for the mention but it was a team effort. Scott Hart and I worked with the 4 candidates to develop the piece and the team of Colin, David and Jim at Bieber Communications made it happen.
Also, one slight correction - Nick is running for Superior Court Judge, Office No. 4 – the seat being vacated by Judge Richard Behn, who asked Nick to run for the seat and is one of 80+ Judges in the Orange County Courts who want to serve with Nick and have endorsed his candidacy.

Brett.
I commend you for a clean and clear mailer. One of the few races without a hit piece. In my Larry Gilbert pics, that are posted on another blog and mass e-mailed,(prior to receiving the flyer), I selected the same four choices.
As voters rarely know anything about judicial candidates I would urge readers to attend events where they are speaking such as the Orange Chapter of the Republican Woman Federated meeting that I attended Thur evening at the OCGOP HQ. Judicial candidates Mike Bartlett, K.C. Jones and Nick Thompson were all there to present their credentials and interface with the club members and guests.
Candidates running for other offices were also present.
Hello Larry Gilbert - nice to see you posting here also. Know you from a few years ago when we began our Citizens group and came south to meet with yours.
I attended a Huntington Harbor Republican Women's Federated (of which I am a member) and Kermit Marsh spoke there along with other judicial candidates. He was (as I knew he would be, because he is on the city council in the city I live in) very articulate, savvy and pointed out a few things about courts and laws that ratched my trust of him in such a postion a few more notches. I was somewhat irked that some of the other candidates who have been district attorneys sounded a bit condescending - like since they have worked in this system for so long they were the best qualified to be a judge. I thought that might be a little much of an over dramatization.
I just wish Kermit would get out some signs, he has good name recognition in Westminster - but there are a lot of other cities that need to know who he is and vote for him too.
Larry:
Please, please stop referring to yourself in the third person.
It's creepy.
I hear the Mike Carona Slate is hitting next week.
Third person?
I was invited to speak at the Orange Republican Woman Federation meeting where I interacted with members and several candidates. What are you talking about? My remark was to let readers know that they can see the candidates at these free events before voting in the blind or simply reading confusing and conflicting mailers. Every election members of our church ask me about the candidates, especially those running for Judge whom we typically have no exposure to.
Add to the discussion if you agree or disagree with rather than continuing to chastise my style. My comments are not written for you to grade or criticize.
What am I talking about? This:

You're referring to yourself as if you are another person. It's called the "third person."
Most people would say, "my pics."
I noticed you have a habit of referring to yourself in the third person. It's kind of weird.
