Re: 71 Assembly District - Jeff Miller
Date: May 8, 2008
I wanted to update you on a recent and devastating discovery in the 71st Assembly District. Just a few years ago, Corona Councilman Jeff Miller was involved in a major energy scandal which cost Corona taxpayers more than $3 million.
The controversy erupted when Jeff Miller secretly launched an energy 'consulting' company just a few weeks before he pushed through the Corona City Council's bold move to use eminent domain to take possession of Southern California Edison's power lines. Miller led the effort for Corona to establish its own city-owned utility company. But, what Miller failed to disclose was that his new company relied heavily upon Corona's success at this new utility venture, and upon Corona city energy employees who he cut in on the deal.
The Riverside Press Enterprise wrote extensively on the issue:"Corona Councilmen Darrell Talbert and Jeff Miller have so tainted the city's effort to break away from Southern California Edison that the city needs to take a crucial vote over again."When it was discovered that Miller and his cohorts had sent several email messages on the matter, these emails were subpoenaed by local residents. Miller sued to block release of the more than 330 emails, and his attorney argued that these could be 'damaging.' Eventually, a judge ruled that 185 should be released. These emails paint a sordid story of the Miller scheme, including:
Riverside Press Enterprise, 1/8/2003
"... two councilmen, Jeff Miller and Darrell Talbert, launched a utility consulting business that improperly mingled their roles as city officials and private entrepreneurs - then fought in court to conceal public documents about the scheme."
Riverside Press Enterprise, 10/28/2004
"Incumbent Miller's willingness to compromise a public office for private gain - and then fight to conceal public records - should disqualify him from a second term."
Press Enterprise 10/28/2004Miller wrote to Talbert on June 23, 2002. "You know the whole thing: his firm will come after us and expose how we may have funneled contracts to us or the competitors doing it. ... woman have the instincts and I am not sure what to do. She says How will you explain it ... when you go to jail. OUCH. Let's talk tonight. I am deleting this e-mail, so don't respond to the above issue."Jeff Miller has still refused to release the balance of the remaining emails. As you can imagine, this secrecy, and this scandal, is among the worst scandals in recent history, and it's a major hurdle for Jeff Miller to overcome.

Sigh.
Notice how the release is carefully crafted to falsely lead the reader to believe Miller was providing consulting services to Corona's planned eminent domain action against Edison -- when in fact that is not the case?
And notice how there is no mention of how the DA and federal investigations in this matter found no evidence of wrongdoing?
This is getting old, fast.
[And yes, I am a Jeff Miller supporter. I'm not against Neil Blais. I think he'd be a solid GOP vote in Sacto. Rather I am supporting Jeff Miller.]
I am shock that Jubal is taking side! Say it ain't so Mr. Jubal! It's OK Matt, I still like what you have to write.
When something doesn't seem right, there is usually a motivation behind it that is unknown to the public. For example, Riverside County is currently the only court in the State with 20 million pages available to the public with tens of thousands of social security numbers exposed. Makes you wonder if something is going on behind the scenes, where is the money being spent to have these documents scanned, etc. Here's a video posted yesteday about it. Makes me wonder...

Folks. It's called transparency. If Jeff is clean on the allegations, why would he block the release of documents?
One thing I caution candidates about relates to skeletons' in their closet. If they exist, over time they will come out.
The only skeletons running around are the ones in your head. I don't blame him, the DA and others have all the info then needed and decided NOT to charge him. Why in the world would he want to subject himself to your biased wrath? You are totally unable to criticize Neil for anything he has ever done (former dem, lost CRA endorsement, etc) yet if there is even a speculation in your mind about Mller, then they must be real "skeletons"
I sure am glad you aren't a judge, you would just make up the rules as you went along.
Jeff Miller's record-
300 tax and fee increases
12 eminent domain takings, including some for private business profit
A $3,000,000 utility scam against the taxpayers of Corona
Support for a Ceasar Chavez holiday
Opposed Tom McClintock's eminent domain reform plan.
Now there is a record that Miller's supporters can be proud of.
Larry, Larry, Larry said.
One of my hero's, whom I frequently quote, was a Democrat. Was he your hero as well? You might recognize the name. They have a Presidential Library bearing his name in the San Fernando Valley where we held a California Republican Assembly meeting a few years ago. In fact anther Larry is there today with his KABC team.
Give him a prize. He has heard of Ronald Reagan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Really Gary. Still at the same old mantra months after Jubal and even the Press Enterprise have exposed your 'sleazy' campaign.
Good job.
"You are totally unable to criticize Neil for anything he has ever done (former dem, lost CRA endorsement, etc)"
Why would you want to criticize someone for changing TO the party, or for something they didn't do? There must not be much to spin.
