1st Supe District Watch: Janet Retaliating Against Hoa Van Tran

Posted by: Tomahawk | 05/24/2008 8:27 PM

Thumbnail image for mailbox.jpgAbout a little bit more than 10 days ago, the Hoa Van Tran campaign sent out a letter alleging that Janet Nguyen accepted financial contributions from people who are suspected agents working for the communist regime in Hanoi.

Well yesterday it was payback time for Janet as her campaign sent out this mailer attacking Hoa Van Tran of associating with known gang members and criminals.

The Captain said:

Dina should thank Janet for this becuase Dina will be the only beneficiary.

This race is about whether the voters think Janet is a suitable supervisor. Either they do or they don't. The alternatives are Dina or Hoa Van Tran. This isn't going to turn any anti-Janet voters into pro-Janet voters but it may solidify the anti-Janet vote for Dina.

Fighting on all fronts said:

Not only with Hoa Tran, JN is fighting on too many fronts and opening up news ones, which is really dumb because she is inviting attacks from all sides, even from those who are not even candidates in her race.

She ought to focus on her own race and not inviting more enemies, new and old. Her sycophants and propagandists, Nick Le Cong and Andrew Do-Do are not helping, but creating more problems for her. Really smart, not, of JN, 9 days out from the election date. It is hurting her badly.

You would not allege that Dina and Hoa are tantamount to Janet in any unique way. However, this particular assault is viewed as a negative attack ad which cannot, in any mean, help her effort. Janet is running hard with phone calls (my wife received one), radio ad, and antagonistic mailer. She was able to hold her ground during the first term without being drawn to negative attack by rivals. We shall see how the others present their responds.

Well I'm just glad someone printed the pictures of the Hoa Headquarters gang somewhere other than on this website.

Captain is wrong said:

Your theory would be true assuming there were no undecided voters. However, there are plenty uncommitted and tons of new voters to the race considering the special election had such low turnout last Feb.

She would have been critized if she said nothing. Smart move and this may be the push she needs to get over 51%.

Where's Janet Nguyen? said:

Minh,

Janet Nguyen's attack against Hoa will only help Dina -- those who despises negative ads and those who won't vote for Hoa. Janet Nguyen's plenty negative. Her paid attack dogs are on Viet radio every other night, really late I heard. It doesn't help her any but voters will condemn it for what it is.

The problem with Janet Nguyen is that she's an absentee candidate. She has ducked all candidate forums for fear of screwing up. Nick LeCong and Adndrew Do speak for her, but it is her candidacy, not theirs. It's bad form and the voters are suspicious. Are they speaking for Janet or for themselves. Who is the real candidate here?

Hoa Van Tran is more of a threat than Dina at this point. Dina's losing the mail war to Hoa Van Tran. Sorry Dina, I don't think "student" is still polling you at 90% of the voters!

As opposed to the negative mailers and radio shows where Van's stooges and Dina equate Janet with the Communists? What about the meetings Van had with Eric Le in November of '06? Van must be a Commie too!

You want to talk about candidate forums, you mean the ONE candidate forum that was scheduled by the AARP in the middle of a BOS meeting? The forum that Hoa RSVP's to and never showed up? The one where Dina stuttered her way through and never gave a straight answer? The forum where she gave no plan or knowledge of BOS business to the AARP members or the reporter from the Register?

Or maybe we should bring up the interviews done by Peggy Lowe where all the candidates were asked the same questions and neither Hoa or Dina could come up with a solid answer (suprisingly Hoa was allowed to speak for himself during this interview!).

Just remember, what goes around comes around, even in Little Saigon and those who live in glass houses (with past due property taxes) shouldn't throw stones.

Tomahawk - "Janet retaliating against Hoa"? With a mailer that only prints pictures that appear on his own website? You call that retaliation? Gosh, why didn't he print the pictures from his own website? I wonder why? Because you see the element he is hanging around with, that's why...you should be happy someone printed those pictures!

Would you want those gangsters running around with BoS? They look pretty scary to me. I live in an old neighborhood and a block away from me is a house where it appears many gang types live. They have lowered cars, some have high priced SUV's with darkened windows and when they drive by the ground rumbles from the bass sound coming from their stereo systems. There have been numerous police raids on that house. These are not the kind of people that a potential BoS should be associating with.

Good mailer. The S.S. Hoa Van Tran was already listing badly. This torpedo will send it to the bottom -- and the irony is Hoa armed the torpedo himself by failing to take control of his campaign.

Janet's Commie Connection said:

Anon above,

Lots of smoke trying to hide for Janet but no real evidence. Ain't working. People are not that stupid.

Fact: Eric Le gave JN the max of $1,500, real early on. What else did EL give JN? How about the Commie Consul General? Let's ask Tony Lam and Nick LeCong. They have pretty good relations with the other side.

Losers All said:

Anon @11:01 PM aka Andrew Do-Do,

You must be real dumb to be doing Janet Nguyen's bidding. We know that you are a frustrated and failing lawyer, but to go on the air and attack other Viet elected officials and your opponents while barking like a dog in heat lowers your value as a professional, which is not that high in the first place.

Look at Janet Nguyen's associates and supporters. They smack of people with suspect political leanings. What is the community record of your co-barkers Nick LeCong, Tony Lam, Nhi VX Ho, and the Viet Weekly? You're fooling no one. Janet is going down, hard. The truth is catching up with all of you.

Anonymous said:

Where is Dina in condemning Hoa Van Tran and the Democrats in using gang members to intimidate voters, candidates, and campaign volunteers?

Unless Dina's trying to help fellow lawyer Hoa Van Tran, why isn't she outspoken against Democrat Hoa's thuggish tactics?

just asking said:

folks janet would not send out such overtly racist hit piece if she thought she was ahead.....she's worried that hoa and dina are going to get in and then she is going be a laughing stock of the the viet community and the reps are going to have to bow down to van tran. the piece does not tell voters who to vote for, so thus it is a suppresion piece....too late janet and by the way are u sure that hoa is in third? Check your polling and look at the early returns dummies.

just asking said:

any body want to take bets that hoa keeps his endorsement?

Minh said:

So if Hoa Van Tran, Thugs and Hoodlums will run the county?

Anonymous said:

Using gangs to intimidate voters is a historical trademark for Democrats in places like New York and Chicago. Looks like these tactics are now welcomed by Democrats here in Orange County.

Of course Democrats will continue to endorse Hoa Van Tran, even after his use of gangs has made the front page.

If Hoa Van Tran had employed Neo-Nazis, Aryan Brotherhood, or Peckerwoods as staff to his campaign - and then allowed them to take photos of themselves flashing their gangs tattoos and gang signs - I expect the same kind of response from any decent candidate.

The silence from Dina on this is deafening.

Anonymous said:

Unlike Dina, Supervisor Nguyen actually campaigns against Democrats.

Anonymous said:

Where is Dina? I don't see any mailers from her posted here on Red County?

It looks like she's getting upstaged by this Hoa Van Tran guy. I guess she's going to wait until the last minute to start mailing. Look forward to seeing that in the mail on Wednesday, Dina.

Anonymous said:

With this attack, maybe Dina can win outright on Tuesday!

Isn't Dina still polling at 90%?

Anonymous said:

Retaliation?? That word reminds me of the stories about former staffers for Hoa Van Tran who almost get run off the road by Edgardo Reynoso. That is retaliation. Or the former Hoa Van Tran staffers who participated in murdering a rival gang member. That is retaliation. A campaign mailer? Hardly rises to the level of outrageous behavior by the Hoa Van Tran camp.
