SD33 Mailbox: When Mimi Hit Harry

Posted by: Jubal | 04/29/2008 2:59 PM

The Mimi Walters campaign launched a couple of torpedoes into the water at the U.S.S. Harry Sidhu. Two negative mailers arrived at Casa de Jubal today. One attacks "liberal Harry Sidhu" over illegal immigration.

The other is a counter-attack against the hit pieces Harry sent out last week, shouting "Stop The Smears!" from "political wannabe Liberal Harry Sidhu." Both feature really awful photos of Sidhu.

Politicos who like a good hit piece will enjoy these.

Also coming through the mail slot was a soft, positive Mimi Walters mailer praising Mimi for "working to protect classroom funding in the face of a massive budget deficit." It's address only to Mrs. Jubal and Jubalette #1, meaning the education mailer is targeted at women voters.

UPDATE (10:36 p.m.): There have been some allegations amongst the comments that Harry's picture is so bad because Mimi's consultant's, GBWA, must have tinkered with them.

Not so. I asked Dave where they got the photos. He said this link showed up in there e-mail inboxes.

The two hit pieces against Harry Sidhu are racist. The photos of Sidhu are obviously darkened to make his skin tone dark - but a really bad job. I would have expected better Photoshop techniques in mailers that were obviously expensive to produce. How low will OC politics go?

Hmm, I received the "soft, positive" piece and the "Stop the Smears!" piece. Maybe the Walters campaign knows I enjoy a bad photo every now & then. (Hello Cassie DeYoung campaign!)

That's what he looks like in many photos/videos:

How are these hit pieces "racist"?! They're just photos. They don't appear doctored to me. They're just bad kind of photos that every candidate wished he/she had of his/her opponent. They're bad in the sense that: 1) they're grainy and look clandestine and 2) Sidhu is grimacing in both of them (he looks angry or mean).

Are all photos of Harry Sidhu off-limits because of his skin color? If that's the suggestion, it's hyper-sensitive.

GRAND OLD PARODY said:

Good info, Jubal.

This whole thread shows how unimaginative professional politicos are - just recycle arguments from the Presidential campaign (race card, darkened pictures, blah, blah, blah). (I guess it's hard to come up with anything new in the world's oldest profession.)

Who says Republicans are against recycling?

DEMOCRATS FOR SIDHU said:

Don't Harry's liberal Democrat supporters have anything more sophisticated to throw out there than race, race, race, blah, blah, blah? They're so unidimensional.

Mimi Walters is a racist and she just lost my vote

err said:

It's not racist... but more than a touch hypocritical to so vehemently attack Harry in one mailer and then cry about him hitting her in another.

Mimi needs to be careful about how she reacts to Harry's mail. She needs to stay above the fray. She should take a lesson from what happened to Cassie DeYoung and keep the high road like Pat Bates did. Cassie self destructed because of this type of mail. Stay on message Mimi and don't fall into the gutter, or it will cost you.

JC Fremont said:

Harry's mail has, thus far, been horrible. It shouldn't be too hard to stay out of the gutter.

These pieces are good, fair game. They aren't racist. That's just lunacy.

Laughing said:

That's so cute. "Stay on message Mimi and don't fall into the gutter." Hmm, it seems that's where she's already set up her base of operations.

WARNING: hyper-sensitivity looming above

$6 Haircut said:

I think the campaign HQ is close so Mimi can get her $6 haircut next door to the Taqueria & Massage Parlor in Lake Forest

Blog Junkie said:

$6 Haircut,

What does that even mean? If you have a witty remark or some insight at least make it clear.

So let's look at your remark.

Close to the...

#1 Taqueria - Name me one city in OC that doesn't have a Taqueria
#2 Massage Parlor - See #1 (well maybe Irvine & Laguna Woods are excluded)

I'm sure that Anaheim doesn't have either, so seriously what is your point.

Top Gun said:

My God! We're discussing campaign pieces and skin color? Now that is a sad state of affairs. Obviously the dumming down of campaign issues is the case these days. What about focusing on the state economy, illegal immigration and such. Let's stick to the issues, bring in logic and don't run on emotion.

Mimi is not a racist and anyone who knows her can attest to that!

Proven hypocrite and backstabber Me-Me Walters has nothing to bring up against Councilmember Sidhu except slightly darker skin color. She just proved herself as a vicious racist. Shame on her and her supporters!!

This demonstrates us all how low Me-Me Walters is running. Me-me, don't panic and stress out too much. You've already lost the race when you stopped caring about us, your voters, taxpayers.

Mr. Sidhu has achieved the American Dream. Mr. Sidhu is a role model. Mr. Sidhu has done it all by himself. Mr. Sidhu is a winner.

Mr. Sidhu has a clean record. Mr. Sidhu has a proven track record of being an honest, loyal, courageous conservative republican leader who does not hesitate to take a stand and fight for what he believes is right.

Despite CRA endorsement we are Republicans of Orange County are honored to support Mr. Sidhu for State Senate.
