San Francisco Promotes Services for Illegal Immigrants/Aliens

Posted by: Lady Fingers | 04/04/2008 11:09 AM

After reading Tomahawk's post about Miller's reaction to San Francisco's latest actions with regards to Illegal Aliens, I took a look at the San Francisco Chronicle,  the website where you can read the whole article here

Last evening on my way home from work I tuned in to listen to some entertainment on talk radio, you know, John and Ken?  They had a fun segment going where they had found a bus company that would, for $10 transport someone from LA to San Francisco.  So they were asking their listeners to sponsor sending local Illegal Aliens to San Francisco so Gavin Newsome could be happier and support the Illegal Aliens with all of his city services.  They had dozens of callers offering hundreds of dollars to 'sponsor an illegal alien's travel to SF'.

What is most disturbing is that San Francisco is actually spending tax dollars to pay for a series of new television and radio commercials, billboards and bus shelter signs in San Francisco advertising the fact that the city by the bay is also a sanctuary city for Illegal Immigrants.  The Ad campaign will cost $83,000, and will be produced in 5 languages!  Brochures will be handed out at public buildings promising safe access to city services for the undocumented and a "don't ask - don't tell" policy when it comes to their residency status.

Additionally, the city's plan is that in August they will begin issuing municipal identification cards to city residents - whether or not they are in the US legally.  San Francisco became a santuary city in 1989, and since then barred city employees from helping Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents with immigration investigations or arrests without a warrant.

It is San Francisco's FORMAL POLICY to NOT report illegal immigrants to federal immigration agents when they visit public health clinics or hospitals, enroll their children in school, report a crime or seek other city services OR APPLY FOR BENEFITS.

The city recently created a position for an "immigrants rights administrator" to work with city agencies so that employees understand the sanctuary city policy and how to better serve the illegal immigrant community.

"City Administrator Ed Lee called San Francisco's new sanctuary city ad campaign "not only the liberal thing to do, it's the responsible thing to do.""

Speculation is that Gavin Newsome plans to run for Governor, and in the wake of N.Y. Spitzer, and his replacement even with Gavin's record; with the liberal population in SF, it's probably doable.  So how would you like to have Gavin Newsome for your next Governor?  I wouldn't like it at all.

Perhaps someone has some statistics but I believe that most of Northern California is actually supported by Southern California taxwise.  So  perhaps we should let John and Ken and their Radio show get the ball rolling, send all the illegal aliens to Northern CA, then a fun idea would be to split CA into TWO state, Northern CA and Southern CA.  Then we would have to beg Sacramento to get our own money back.  You know, there is North Dakota and South Dakota, there is Virginia and West Virginia, there is North Carolina and South Carolina...perhaps California should start thinking about this.....

Oops, got that posted before I found an error...the second to the last sentence should read: "Then we would NOT have to beg Sacramento..."

Relax Lady Jefferson Davis Fingers.

Do you think it is better for a person who does not have citizen status to not report crimes for fear that they will be deported?

Do you believe that most immigrants who come to the U.S. without going through the bureaucracy commit serious crimes once they are in the U.S.?

Mayor Gavin Newsom is dealing with spikes in crime that are similar in most major U.S. cities. The difference between him and other leaders is that he enlisting ALL of his city's residents for help, not criminalizing him.

This is an election year. If you don't like the way the government is handling the immigration issue, the vote for somebody other than Rorabacher, Royce, Campbell, and Miller who have all done nothing to realistically solve the problems associated with illegal immigration.

Anonymous - so who do you suggest we vote for? Who has done anything real about Illegal Immigration? Who has done anything REAL about Emminent Domain? I'm still waiting for that one too...Do we have anyone doing anything real? Who are they? I want to vote for them!!!

So who's voting for Gavin Newsome for Governor after the Terminater terminates? Possibly all the hispanics given asylum in the US? Yes, I know I will hear that they won't be able to vote until they are citizens, but really, who's checking that anyway?

Looks like Lady Fingers won't answer 12:10's questions.

Now that's gotta be one of the year's best euphemisms.

What about those who want a gay wedding ceremony? Can they too board the bus?

Jhon and Ken's "Sponsor an Illegal Alien for $10.00" is just as absurd as what the Mayor of S. F. is doing.

How is encouraging all residents to work with law enforcement to report crimes considered being a champion of illegal immigrants? Costa Mesa's police have been trying to inform immigrant residents, legal or illegal, that they will not be deported for just reporting crimes. Alan Mansoor's policies were so counterproductive for Costa Mesa that the police department had to do what San Francisco's Mayor is doing now.

Gavin Newsom is a traitor to his city, state and country. He is not above the laws and customs of our country and it's national security. Period. He should be brought up on charges against the United States. Our economy is in the dog house and he now invites millions of illegal immigrants to come here and ignore our country's laws and work for cash, pay no taxes, get free health care and section 8 housing, welfare blah blah... NO AMNESTY FOR ILLEGALS EVER. Check out this website for a frightening report on the health issues concerning illegal immigration. Thanks for sharing.

Dear Davey: Yes I think I should have added that Gavin Newsome and all elected officials have to take an oath of office when sworn in. I that oath it says you take the oath freely and without hestitation and will support and defend the laws of the State of California and the United States of America. When these politicians deliberatly plan and scheme and use public money to create a campaign to welcome ILLEGAL ALIENS to partake of tax payer dollar services; I think they are breaking that oath and should be recalled, or arrested for breaking the law themselves...illegal use of public monies, not to mention defiance of established immigration laws.

Berkeley does not want the Marines and Frisco wants the illegal aliens. Fine let them have secession from the rest of the country. The Bay area will hardly be missed.

Where does any of the advertisements that San Francisco is going to run say anything about inviting illegal immigrants to San Francisco?

Lady Fingers still won't answer commenter #2's questions.

Looks like another case of ignoring what you want to.

Brianne said:

Any city that wants to get rid of illegals should give them a free bus ticket to San Francisco.
