OC GOP Endorsement Committee: Totally for Jon Fish
Posted by: Tomahawk | 04/14/2008 6:14 PM
Next up the Endorsement Committee unanimously voted to recommend Deputy District Attorney Jonathan Fish for endorsement to the office of Superior Court Judge, Office No. 8. Fish's opponent in this race -- Barry Collins, an administrative law judge -- didn't even bother to request the committee's support. A wise move because I don't think Barry Collins would have gotten it anyway.
Barring any unforeseeable incident, it is expected that the full OC GOP Central Committee will endorse Jon Fish next Monday.

I was pleased to hear that Jonathan Fish won the unanimous vote of the endorsement committee. Jon is an articulate and intelligent man with an impressive prosecutorial resume.
Additionally, he is a gentleman to all he meets. I believe that he has the ability to number amoung the finest jurists of the Orange County Superior Court.
I will vote for him, that is for sure.

Judge Barry Collins was born in the San Francisco Bay Area. His family moved down to Fresno when Barry was a teenager. Judge Collins excelled in high school and graduated in the top of his class as a member of the prestigious California Scholarship Federation while lettering in Varsity Swimming and Water Polo.
He went on to study at the University of California at Irvine and he fell in love with the Orange County area. While at UCI, Judge Collins expanded his passion for Justice by obtaining a Specialization in Criminal Justice. After college he went on to graduate from the esteemed McGeorge School of Law at the University of the Pacific. Judge Collins’ legal career has included being a litigation attorney for 14 years with experience representing both the defendant’s side and the plaintiff’s side. He was named a Certified Specialist by the State Bar of California in the field of Workers’ Compensation, one of the most complex areas of current law. This well rounded experience made him a perfect candidate for Judge and he was appointed to the bench as an Administrative Law Judge for the State of California in early 2005.
Judge Collins is in Court every day presiding over trials and conferences and making decisions on complex legal issues. Since taking the bench, Judge Collins has tried and decided hundreds of cases and he has only been overturned on appeal once. He has several decisions that have been upheld by the State Courts of Appeal and the California Supreme Court.
Judge Collins has been married to his beautiful wife Jorden for almost 11 years. They have two wonderful children. Judge Collins is also very active in his local community. He serves as a Little League Umpire and as a timer for his daughter’s swim team. He also writes a weekly newspaper column. Judge Collins has co-authored a children’s book on Biblical Justice which is being used in churches in Africa. Judge Collins also serves as the voluntary Advocacy Team Leader for the Justice Task Force of Saddleback Church. In late 2006, he led a team of attorneys, law enforcement officers, and victim advocates on a Justice assessment trip to the tiny African nation of Rwanda which is recovering and rebuilding after the horrible period of genocide that the country went through. The team met with high level leaders in the Rwandan Justice System. The task force is currently working with the Rwandan government and providing training to attorneys and law enforcement personnel in Rwanda. In his (little) free time, Judge Collins enjoys spending time with his family and swimming. Last year, Judge Collins completed the grueling Alcatraz Sharkfest swim from Alcatraz Island to San Francisco.
