No More Working For Da Man: Tax Freedom Day Is Tomorrow

Tomorrow marks the day when the average American ceases to be a serf of the federal government and begins working for him or herself. This came over the transom earlier today from Sen. Tom Harman's office:
Senate & Assembly Lawmakers to Celebrate Tax Freedom Day
California faces the fourth most burdensome tax climate in the country
Members of the State Senate and Assembly Republican Caucuses will hold a press conference Wednesday, April 30th to commemorate Tax Freedom Day, the day Californians stop working for the government and start putting their money in their own pocket. Jonathan Coupal, President of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association and other prominent taxpayer advocates will be there for comments and to discuss the negative implications of California's high tax base.
Tax Freedom Day was founded by the Washington DC based Tax Foundation and is known as the day in which the average American has earned enough money to pay off their tax burden and start working for themselves and their families. For most Americans Tax Freedom Day comes on April 23rd but with California's higher than average tax burden, California will celebrate the day on April 30th therefore paying 4 months of their earnings to the government before taking anything home for their families.
"California's spending binges are overly dependent on a few individuals gaining financial windfalls and then paying taxes on them. We are quickly running out of Californians willing to stay in the state to pay for our over-bloated bureaucracy and threats of increased taxes will only drive more people out of the state. Spending cuts are the only answer," commented Senator Harman
"31% of America's income is going towards taxes, said Assemblyman Bob Huff, Chairman of the Assembly Republican Caucus. "That means that the average American is working for the government nearly one third of the time. Tax Freedom Day is a celebration of the day when we are free from this overwhelming burden."
Assembly Members Huff and Walters will also discuss their ACR 105, which commemorates the 30th anniversary of Proposition 13.
