Jose Solorio Opposes Janet's "Bolsa Bridge"

Posted by: Tomahawk | 04/21/2008 11:51 AM

Thumbnail image for jose_solorio.jpgLast Friday, Assemblyman Jose Solorio held an open house at his spacious office in Anaheim for friends, supporters and residents of the 69 District.

It was a typical open house with snacks and drinks.  Things only got interesting when a freelance Vietnamese reporter by the name of Hung Phuong Nguyen asked the Assemblyman for his view of the proposed bridge over Bolsa Avenue.

Jose was very direct about his dissatisfaction with the project.  He said that Santa Ana, one of the three cities he is representing up in Sacramento, accounts for 60% of the 1st Supervisorial District, so it should also get 60% of the $5 million in funding set aside for Central Orange County.

In addition, Jose stated that ultimately it is the City of Westminster's decision on whether to construct this bridge or not, but as far as he is aware, the City Council have not receive any official proposal from the County of Orange.  However, if the county does move ahead, he will oppose this project, not because he doesn't like the bridge, but because he wants equal financial distribution for each city base on their population.

Bolsa Bridge.JPGJose further explained that Proposition 1B funding is for repairing surface streets and relieving traffic gridlocks not to benefit a private commercial mall.  Jose said that he cannot see how the county can justify spending a colossal amount of taxpayers monies -- $2.5 million -- to build a pedestrian bridge where there are more urgent needs in the 1st District.

If Jose Solorio does indeed work against this project from getting the necessary approval and funding from the state's Finance Department, Janet Nguyen's "Bolsa Bridge" is only as good as an empty campaign promise.

Since Tomahawk is so impressed with Assemblyman Solorio's response, I wonder if he'll give some money to the Assemblyman's re-election campaign?

I wonder if it's the same Hung Phuong Nguyen who's been showing up at various campaign events as a freelance reporter. That one is also something of a permanent protester. He's currently leading the picketing of Viet Weekly, part of the original crowd outside Nguoi Viet, and also part of the group that went with Andy Quach force Irvine Valley College to take down their international flag display.

Hung Phuong Nguyen (again, my Hung, not necessarily the same as your Hung) was also part of the group trying to get USC take down its flag display.

Tomahawk,

Thanks for the update on this. Glad to see Jose is looking out for his constituents.

I notice the lack of qoutes around what Solorio supposedly said, TD. Either you're interjecting your own commentary, which we've seen SO many times in the past, as Solorio's or you've found a new moonlighting job as Solorio's speech writer. Whatever pays the bills huh?

The Guru, hes posting favorably about Democratic elected officials on Red County (of all places) because when he runs for Westminster City Council he'd like to get the Democratic Party endorsement aswell as Solorio's.

Glad Solorio is more concerned about bridges than he is about the 6 people shot in Santa Ana, 3 of them who died.

Glad to see that you will shamefully use the deaths of 3 people to try and further your political agenda.

so, janet's bridge is an empty promise or another election gimmick. btw, bolsavik is as good as an editor out of job, an unlicensed lawyer.
