Huntington Beach Votes To Display National Motto In Council Chambers

Last night, the HB Council voted 4-2 to display the national motto -- "in God We Trust" -- in the council chambers.
Councilmembers Joe Carchio, Cathy Green, Don Hansen and Gil Coerper voted "Yes."
Mayor Debbie Green and Councilwoman Jill Hardy voted "No."
Councilman Keith Bohr -- who, according to the OCR, opposes the display -- decided to abstain. A profile in courage, that.
Sara Michelle Spinosa came unglued over at Orange Juice. Apparently this will usher in an Age of Darkness. She even included a picture of lynching in her post. Apparently that will also be a consequence of the council's vote.
It's the national motto. There are no constitutional issues at stake. This does not entail the establishment of a church. But it's fun to watch a lefty behave as if the Salem Witch Trials are now just around the corner.

It is Mayor Debbie Cook and not Green. I thought the lawsuit clarified that.
What wasn't said here was that the people who spoke against this far outweighed the amount of people for it (about 3). If you want a patriotic sign try "proud to be an America" Many people in our city are private about our religions. Even though most people did not want this Cathy Green did not get it and pushed her political agenda. Our councilmembers are not responsive to the people. They are not listening.
In Cypress, Leroy Mills and Todd Seymore were the only council members to vote Yes. Phil Luebben voted No. Doug Bailey and Prakash Narain both spoke out against the item, but chose to Abstain. The item therefore passed on only a 2-1 vote.
Marla:
it's absurd to think there is any direct correlation between the number of pro/con speakers at a single council meeting, an a measures support or lack thereof among the people of Huntington beach.
From now on, should councilmembers simply do a head count of pro- and con- speakers on any particular agenda item, and then vote accordingly?
In that, why not abolish the council and govern HB on the Athenian democracy model?
Sara Spinosa is easily influenced by her lost friends. She is still naive and young. As believers, we need to pray for her and plant the seed of hope.
How can you tell when Sarah Michelle Spinosa comes unglued? Wouldn't that presuppose that at some time she was somehow together.
It's like the story where Bush fell off his mountain bike and the doctor warned Laura to watch for signs of brain damage. "How would I tell?" she asked.
"....many people in our city are private about our religions......"
Marla James, for one, I am not hiding my God from anyone. Second when you speak vocally against our God, you are not being private either.
Religions...... meaning many foreigners with different religions, whom have CHOSEN to come to OUR christian nation America because they FIRST liked what this chistian nation can offer to them and to their children.
It is 100% OK for them if we worship our God both in the public and the private places....you see, they did not come to this country to be served nor be accomodated of their ethnic tradition or religion....they are here..... so they can become part of us, a proud american!
Amazing to see "conservatives" pushing the adoption of a Federal motto. And taking direction from someone in Bakersfield. The sideshow goes on even as there are real issues to address.
Yeah, and pledging allegiance to that Federal flag, while they're at it. They probably believe in that Federal Constitution, too. Some "conservatives" they are!
Better watch out, remember Bakersfield i.e. Kern County has quit taking our "waste"! They are starting to stand up for themselves and dissing them is not good...
And to think that Debbie Cook wants to be in Congress. In God I trust, in her I don't.
