Huff's Anti-Illegal Immigration Package Voted Down

Assemblyman Bob Huff's Illegal Immigration Reform Package Voted Down in Committee
AB 2418, AB 2420, and AB 2422 Fail Along Party-Line Votes

Sacramento, CA (April 14, 2008) - Three pieces of Assemblyman Bob Huff's illegal immigration legislative reform package died in the Assembly Public Safety Committee last week. AB 2418 would have denied bail to undocumented individuals charged with violent or gang-related felonies, AB 2422 would have required the identification of undocumented felons or juveniles for referral to federal immigration authorities, and AB 2420 would have outlawed sanctuary cities in the state.

"The failure of AB 2418, AB 2420, and AB 2422 demonstrate that the legislature's Democrat majority are more interested in protecting the status quo, than they are in protecting our neighborhoods," Assemblyman Huff remarked. "Not everyone who enters our country without permission is pursuing the American Dream. These three common-sense bills targeted those here illegally who are involved in gang related or felony-type crimes, and the cities who willfully accommodate them. The impact of unsecured borders is felt by every Californian, but especially those victimized by crimes perpetrated by criminal elements who roam across our borders at will.  These common-sense measures would have helped to both better protect our citizens and help relieve our fiscal crisis."

"While a comprehensive solution to illegal immigration must come from the federal government, the state can and must play a role in reducing the negative impacts of illegal immigrants on both our society and state budget," Assemblyman Huff concluded.

Assemblyman Huff is Chairman of the Assembly Republican Caucus.  He represents portions of Orange, Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties.

This is disappointing news, but expected since the Dems hold the majority.

Did we expect a different outcome? C'mon, it's just a political ploy by Bob Huff to shore up his conservative credentials.

I live in 60th. Why isn't this numbskull Huff coming up with a solution to the budget crisis instead of picking on Mexicans?
San Diego Los Angeles Santa Ana

The names of these cities should tell you who was here first.

The Republicans have mismanaged the economy, the war, the mortgage crisis, Katrina, Corona on the way to jail, Nielson Rohrabacher's former staffer a convicted pedophile, Schroeder suing everyone, the Lacy jail scandal, Dina's finance report, and the state is 16 Billion in the hole, And what does Bob Huff do? Blame the Mexicans. I thought you guys were Christians. What kind of people are you, have you no shame?

I agree, I know Supervisor Janet Nguyen was fuming over Bob Huff' anti-illegal legislation bills the other day. She said Bob Huff was wrong.

Especially the clown with the accent who claims to be a governor, and the other three, two mayors from San Francisco, and Los Angeles....and the princess ,she thinks , this Pelosi frame who refuses to let any worthwhile legislation come to the floor for a vote....she really has to be the highest paid off Congress person ever as evidenced by no note worthy legislation since she was installed as a humanoid,. The Worst Congress ever in the history of this country...19% , that is extremely sad....I'm sorry, but to brag you are from what is becoming MEXIFORNIA is nothing to be proud of at all. Soon a junk yard and more bankrupt hospitals and deeper in debt....wow what aplace ( to be from)
