Hoa Van Tran Gets OC Democrats Endorsement
Posted by: Jubal | 04/28/2008 10:45 PM
You know, it's comforting to know that a candidate can disregard campaign reporting laws, tolerate a hostile work environment in his campaign and hire gang members as field staff -- and still get the DPOC nod as long as he's the only Democrat standing.
It's been a week since I pointed out that Hoa Van Tran's Jan. 1 through March 17 campaign report failed to disclose niggling details like staff salaries and payments to vendors -- you know, the little things.
As of today, Hoa still has not filed an amendment correcting that report and disclosing the salaries of campaign manager Edgrado Reynoso, as well as departed and extant campaign staff. Nor payments to Nationwide Printing Services.
If this was really "just an oversight," shouldn't Hoa and Pho Do Nguyen -- his boss/campaign treasurer/landlord/part-owner-of-TV-station-running-boatloads-of-Hoa-ads -- be all over that amended report like a couple of cheap suits?
Maybe it's time for a countdown.

Matt-
You and I both know he doesn't stand a chance against your girl Janet. The Republican Party endorsed her, so apparently the Dems felt they had to respond by fighting fire with gasoline in a non-partisan election! I'm not surprised though. Theyz so smrt... as well as asore losers!
SMS
Matt be careful in letting this SMS person begin commenting on your blog. She is quite abrasive. She see's Art Pedroza as a hero if that gives you any insight.
Well if the staff left because the campaign allegedly stiffed them on their pay, maybe the financial disclosure was correct after all.
I'm guessing you're being tongue-in-cheek, but stiffing a staffer isn't a way to avoid disclosure. That's what Schedule F - Accrued Expenses (Unpaid Bills) is for.
Jubal,
Last year when Janet didn't disclose her illegal defense fund and solicitation did you ask her to clarify right away? why do you so hard on Hoa? Is it because he is not in your camp or party?

You're kidding, right?

Jubal---I think both political parties tend to overlook campaign reporting shortcomings when making endorsement decisions. Hoa's campaign hack may be shady but unlike campaign consultants and/or campaign workers in both political parties who were either arrested, indicted or convicted of campaign violations(and some who were kept on after the arrests and/or convictions) Hoa's guy is so far unindicted. I'm not standing up for the guy---some of the stuff sounds pretty stinky--but it was not enough to not endorse.
The Dems are in a tough spot. Hoa is not the ideal candidate but a party who is just beginning to make significant inroads into the Vietnamese community would be hard pressed to deny an endorsement to a Vietnamese who is endorsed by the only Vietnamese Democratic Club. The Dems are paying the price for politically neglecting the Vietnamese community by not having the greatest candidate in this race. Even the Republican party though gets stinkers....look at your 47th CD candidate Mr. Stand by your Tan. Over time I suspect that this will self-correct for the Dems.
A candidate gets endorsed in spite of shady associates and Jubal is complaining? Don't make me go all Jeff Nielsen and Don Haidl on you, Matt.
Oh no. Anything but that.
