Fundraising - Janet Nguyen Style (with Style)
Posted by: Lady Fingers | 04/03/2008 9:28 AM
Last night in downtown Garden Grove, a nice crowd gathered to give a great boost to Supervisor Janet Nguyen's re-election campaign. Crowd notables were Mayor Bill Dalton, Councilmember Rosen, and many locally elected officials from all over Orange County.
Janet gave a nice speech, turned the microphone over to Mayor Bill Dalton who spoke to Janet's many attributes and her consistent support of the First District as a whole. He reiterated her even-handed support for all the people of the First District, and named some of the funding she has managed to get to Santa Ana, Garden Grove and Westminster. He also indicated her hard working style and her empathy for her fellow citizens. He commented on her ability to reign in costs and her work with the other Supervisors in creating oversight committees to evaluate and clean up any corruption; streamline the county government and make OC a better place to live.
Councilman Rosen took the microphone and it was easy listening to this kind man in the midst of this group as he related that he ran against Janet in the last election, and knows how hard she works in walking precincts and in every aspect of what she does. He says most every door he knocked on told him Janet had been there before him, so he knows just how hard she was working.
Others that spoke on her behalf related the last year and several months as being tough ones facing the lawsuits regarding the election; and Janet's grace under pressure in dealing with all this while still doing a great job for the First District.
Having lived in Garden Grove for a number of years myself, I was surprised to see some of the people coming in the door in support of Janet, it was good to know that the people I have known for so many years have the same good opinions of the 1st District Supervisor.
I don't think the funds collected tonight will be reported until the June 30 reporting cycle (not sure about that reporting cycle) but it should show a nice bump in her campaign war chest, and she reminded me of the energizer bunny, she just keeps on going.
Janet introduced the most important person in her life, her husband, and said without his support and confidence in her she could not be as strong. She also joked that with all the Nguyen's in the race they had talked about hyphenating to Nguyen-Bonokowski but that it would cost her a fortune in printing signs that long..which brought a lot of laughter and comments that just the name "Janet" works for everyone (literally also).
Janet humbly "worked the crowd" meaning she met and shook everyone's hand and was genuinely just the nicest person you could imagine. She introduced and thanked her staff, the host of the event, and thanked everyone who attended. The restaurant had some really excellent and delightful foods, so if you are ever on Main Street in Garden Grove you might want to sample some of the restaurants.
It seemed a peaceful, easy evening with many strong supporters relating good stories about Janet. It inspired confidence that we have a good Supervisor running our 1st District.

Lady Fingers,
Nice try at trying to make this event more than it was. In truth, it was modestly attended and there weren't any big names from around the county there - only a few city council members and some of her buds from Atlas and YRs. I suspect most of the people who came were invited to attend for free to try and help fill up the room. My guess is at best, Janet maybe raised $10 - $15K k at the most.
I really got a kick out your hard sell, "Janet humbly "worked the crowd" meaning she met and shook everyone's hand and was genuinely just the nicest person you could imagine." LOL.
She never made to my hand, I guess I haven't "earned" a handshake from her. I didn't bother to notice if she actually shook everyone else's hands as you claimed she did. There was nothing new and exciting from the lips of awe inspiring Bill Dalton (LOL) and the super motivating Mark Rosen (LOL again). They blessed us with the normal obligatory comments about Janet.
As for Janet's own words; I wasn't moved or turned off by them - typical Janet speech to her friends that I've heard before...blah, blah, blah...then, Janet's friends took turns trying to convince her friends that she was their friend and because of that, she was the best candidate for friendly Supervisor of the 1st.
The food was pretty good, I agree with you there. Other than that, we saw things differently. I came out of curiosity to see if Janet could say or do anything that would maybe move me her way. She didn't. I left with my wallet and vote intact...
From one fly to the other, I didn't notice you being there. Now I am not going to carry on about the event, other than to say I was there along with about 40 other supporters. If by chance you ate the food and participated in the event without making a contribution, then I call that party crashing of the worst kind. Crawl back into your hole and spend some time assessing your contribution to mankind.
Doug's Downtown Grill on Main Street in Downtown Garden Grove is an outstanding restaurant, regardless of what you think about Supervisor Nguyen.
Janet's lucky to bring in 5K max, last night. Any other number over that is extremely difficult, given the type of event.
She's tapped out but also desperate. You can tell by her conduct against Dina's donors, which is counterproductive to Janet.
Hey Fingers, I find it funny that only you can describe Janet as "nicest person you could imagine..." Are you high or something? Hahaha, what a tool.
Lady Fingers,
If you are going to report back for all bloggers to read on the day's events, please do so with some objectivity. We're not asking for much.
You lose complete credibility, while making your Janet look real bad, when you hyperventilate the facts on this post. We are not naive about these things. And we also know Janet Nguyen for who she REALLY is.
I saw what I saw. I will not compromise my perceptions to fit yours. You see what you see and you post whatever you like (many times in fact). But I reported what I saw. Please don't be unnerved that Janet actually has a nice side okay? Take your valium and settle down. It's okay if someone writes something nice about her once in a while, it shouldn't lead to a nervous breakdown for you.

You mean there is still a reader out there who hasn't figured out this blog is not objective?
This ain't a newspaper, amigo. It's a blog. We put forth our opinions. Agree or disagree with them, but pouting that we aren't "objective" doesn't count as making an argument.

He is very real. Tall and handsome. Seems like a very supportive gentleman. He was not "underwrap" on Wednesday night. She did a very nice introduction of him. He was also at the CRA endorsing convention, doesn't look like she's keeping him under wraps to me.
Anon.3:04, We all believed Janet was alone at the cra convention.
