Blais Endorsed by Log Cabin Club
Posted by: Nick Naylor | 04/29/2008 6:35 PM
In the past, Republicans have elected conservatives to the State Assembly who 'grow' into liberals. On other occasions, the Republicans OC elects to the State Assembly embrace liberal ideas after having them 'thrust' upon them by Sacramento. But Neil Blais is that rare Republican who can campaign 'both ways', conservative and liberal.
Today, the Log Cabin Club of California, the cabana of liberal Republicana announced their endorsement of Neil Blais for State Assembly. No endorsement for the Trannies. No endorsement for Mimi. No love for Devore.
But they lit up the Internet for Blais.

OUCH! Neil really didn't need this. There goes his church support.
The Log Cabins didn't interview anyone - they issued endorsements unsolicited.
Neil does not support this organization, they didn't even ask if he wanted the endorsement.
I heard he did in fact interview - is he denying?
Blais emphatically denies - there was NO interview. The campaign never sought the endorsement.
Blais strongly believes in the Defense of Marriage act and did not seek the Log Cabin endorsement. So all of you hate mongers can blog all you want, but Blais did not interview for this endorsement, did not request consideration for the endorsement, and was never asked if he wanted the endorsement.
They did phone interviews - maybe Neil talked to them but did not know who or what they represented.
Lets see here. The Miller campaign, through this blog post, is attacking a number of GOP conservatives, including:
AD 59 Anthony Adams (a Miller endorser)
SD1 DAVE COX
SD17 GEORGE RUNNER
SD19 TONY STRICKLAND
AD29 MIKE VILLINES
AD33 SAM BLAKESLEE
AD37 AUDRA STRICKLAND
AD38 CAMERON SMYTH
AD67 JIM SILVA
AD73 DIANE L. HARKEY
AD75 NATHAN FLETCHER
Nice job Jeff Miller. Nice of you to attack all these conservative legislators and candidates. They'll all be very happy to know you're attacking their character and calling them 'liberals.'
Sorry, Tim.
I re-read the post and didn't see Miller mentioned or an attack on Anthony Adams or any of the others.
From their own material, Log Cabins will endorse incumbents but will only endorse non-incumbents upon request.
What furtive method did Neil use to signal his interest?
Looks like this isn't out of character with Blais' local endorsements of Gail Reavis, Richard Dixon and other backers of Lou Correa.
So is the Blais camp denying this? Or is it a don't ask, don't tell type of a thing?
There was no request for endorsement.
Naylor is a puppet of Jeff Miller.
Neil himself says that he is not all that familiar with Republican Party politics. I am sure heard "log cabin club" and thought they were something different. The question is, what answers did he give them in order to get this endorsement?
Is there ever anything valuable posted on this blog? People like "Possible Explanation" remind me of high school dorks who hide behind their computers while insulting people/ trying to talk to girls.
Ok all of you Miller rocket scientist pundits.
Get over it. Neil did not seek this endorsement and notified them when he found out about it that he does not support their agenda under any circumstances.
And Tim Clark said it all. Miller has just attacked a boatload of conservative Republicans who they also endorsed. I am sure without their permission.
Say all you want about the Blais campaign, but this Nick Naylor piece is the bonehead manuever of all bonehead manuevers. If I were Dave Gilliard, I would fire this guy in a heartbeat for being so stupid.
Where does this post call anybody that picked up the endorsement a liberal?
When was the last time we saw Gilliard on this web site, or Dicharia or any other consultant feeling the need to protect their glass jawed candidate.
Just like when Tim led Neil around Sacramento, Blais obviously feels a little more comfortable when he is being man handled apparently, and on the phone interview, or in the personal one-on-one, whichever way the Loggers complete their tete-e-tete's, that's what came through in the end for Blais.
But if this endorsement is hard for you to swallow...
I understand that Blais is dropping scented mail tomorrow.
The "lower the boom" post is highly inappropriate. Way to class it up Miller supporters.
Lower the Boom has Corona class
Tim- Why didn't you send out a press release denouncing the endorsement? It has been on their website all day. Because Tony Strickland might get upset? And how is Nick's post attacking thier character?
Please get back to saving Denham and stop blogging. Seriously. Besides, how can you possibly waste away the equity in the Blais home on the OC Blog?
7:49--just for clarification....Carona or Corona?
Corona.
"If I were Dave Gilliard,"
That is the funniest thing on this thread...funnier than the "hard to swallow" or "don't ask, don't tell". Oh my God...if "Karl Rove" were Dave Gilliard. That is HYSTERICAL!
Dude, DG has more political sense in the few hairs left on his head, than you do in your entire, um, body.
I bet you told Neil to go ahead and request the endorsement, didn't you?
Dork.
For a couple of hours today, Blais is saying that an endorsement he desperately sought from a movement conservative Republican didn't matter because he had the endorsement of a known liberal in Gail Reavis.
Now he says that his endorsement by the most liberal Republican group doesn't matter because he is a conservative.
Neil and Gary just can't seem to get it together today.
Tim, please let them know that they are conservatives.
Ahh, Neil, look, I hate to let you know but my flat *** endorsement is still on.
I still stand shoulder-to-shoulder with you no matter who backs you.
Your campaign chair,
Mike

7:49/8:05-See I think this is just like the Carona endorsement. Think you want it and when you realize you have it, not so much. I think you meant Carona class.
I have a friend on the LC BOD--he told me they taped all the interviews. He is looking for the interview with Blais. Stay tuned!!!
Tim- For the last year and a half, your candidate has told anyone that would listen that Orange County is the only county that mattered. Who cares about your list of out of town legislators--with the expection of Jim Silva? And for that matter, who cares about Jim Silva?
We were going to endorse Neil......But.....Now.....Ummmmmmm....Maybe.........Not
Boy did we make the right endorsement !!!!!!!
The Family Action PAC already endorsed Blais.
With Neil just becoming a Republican recently, I can see how he might not know what the Log Cabin club was OR how to get the CRA endorsement, etc.
Neil this is from the Log Cabin Platform. Will you be carrying this legislation for them ???....as a voter I want to know
"""134,000 children are waiting to be adopted in this country. Millions more wait to be adopted in other countries. Same-sex couples who are ready for parenting should be allowed to adopt these children if they meet all other qualifications for adopting"""
Same Sex Marriage
Same Sex Couples Adopting Childern
Family Action PAC Needs To Pull The Endorsement Of This Guy
I'm the Director of California Log Cabin. We didn't endorse Blais for his stands on gay issues. Here is what we told him via e-mail when contacted by him. "We did not endorse you for your position on marriage. Your position is the same as Barbara Boxer so that would hardly make us want to support you as a Republican organization. Because there are challengers in your race we wanted to tell our members who is the candidate whose Republican positions most match our own. Because there is nothing left, other than marriage your views on “gay issues” is irrelevant. And again, since your views are the same as Barbara Boxer that is a net zero aspect. So our endorsement had to do with your GOP agenda, not your gay agenda (whatever that is…)
You didn’t seek our endorsement and you disagree with us on marriage. Just as if I am asked I will state plainly how we don’t agree on marriage, but agree on lower taxes etc. And we will remind the media that the gay wars are over and we won. That is something for you to learn quickly as well. The courts are with us, the majority of the legislature is with us and polling of Republicans show that the party is mostly with us. A national poll of Republicans last year found the party is older, more white and more conservative than it was ten years ago. Those older, whiter, male, more conservative GOP voters also said 77% of them agree it should be illegal to fire someone for being gay or lesbian. 49%, a plurality, say gays and lesbians should serve openly in the military. 43% say there should be legal recognition for same sex couples. 45% say they know someone gay or lesbian and that makes them more supportive of freedom for them. Imagine how high those numbers are just in California. The base is more supportive and they don’t look kindly on anti-gay campaigning. Ask Ken Khachigian about the polling he did for Poochigian and what he found about how GOP voters react to anti-gay campaigns now. Because we are out and known, our Republican neighbors, friends and family know we aren’t the monsters once made out to be. I live in Orange County in a very conservative area and my neighbors think we’re great. It’s time for our leaders to get with the program and understand the world has changed, like it or not. I tell you this because I’d like you to win your primary and the election. Trying to out gay your opponent will backfire on you. I frankly don’t care your views on gay issues, but I do care about electing Republicans to office. "
So not to worry homophobes everywhere. Blais isn't pro gay enough for us or anyone. We're looking at GOP issues. Now if the rest of you would kindly take your fat government intrusion into people's lives noses out of our bedroom we might start winning elections again.
Thanks, Mr. Vaughn. No doubt the neanderthal comments to come will make you wonder why you bothered to state your case, though.
"since your views are the same as Barbara Boxer"
Hey Neil thanks for joining me in supporting the rights of Gay and Lesibians to adopt childern......
LOL!!!
Neil
Having James Vaughn defend you does not help your case.
...I't only hurts the first time.
FYI... the reason Blais and Barbara Boxer have the same views on same sex marriage... they both oppose it. So if you folks disagree with Boxer on her views on marriage, I've got a Log Cabin membership application all ready to send ya... And if it helps Log Cabin Republicans will endorse Mike Spence for CRA President or Central Committee...
This whole thing is turnig into Neil's very own Rev. Wright moment.
Miller should take Vaughn out for a cosmo when this is all over.
As a non-gay Republican who supports the Republican agenda of the Log Cabin club, it is more a problem to me that so many blog posters (or maybe it is just one obsessed blogger) would drag this out and not respect that this is a group of Republicans, regardless of their position on that one issue. If a candidate doesn't accept all bonafide Republican endorsements, whether sought out or not, especially from a local group this politically active, they are making a mistake.
we don't have to show you no stinkin' endorsement standards
