Assembly Republicans Against Release of Felons

ASSEMBLY REPUBLICANS HELD ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION ON EARLY RELEASE OF FELONS FROM STATE PRISONS
ORANGE - Assemblymembers Chuck DeVore (R-Irvine), Mike Duvall (R-Yorba Linda), Jim Silva (R-Huntington Beach) and Van Tran (R-Garden Grove) today held a roundtable discussion with Orange County public safety officials to discuss keeping their community and families safe.
"Orange County has one of the lowest crime rates in the region because of the hard work of our local public safety officials," commented Assemblyman DeVore. "Releasing felons they have worked so hard to put away is like a slap in their face," said Assemblyman Tran.
The Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation has proposed releasing 22,159 incarcerated felons before their sentences are complete, and 18,522 serious and repeat criminals from parole because of the current $16 billion budget deficit. These proposals would save the state of California only one-third of one-percent of the General Fund. It is estimated that 1,240 convicts would be let loose into Orange County, and 1,214 convicts here would be taken off parole.
"We should not balance the State Budget by compromising the safety of Orange County families," remarked Assemblyman Duvall. "The state will have to come up with better solutions on how to address the deficit," stressed Assemblyman Silva.
In 2007, Republicans and Democrats worked together with Governor Schwarzenegger on Assembly Bill 900 to increase prison space and cut down on recidivism. Early release and summary parole would take a giant step backwards in securing California's public safety.
Assemblyman Chuck DeVore represents the 70th Assembly District; Assemblyman Mike Duvall represents the 72nd Assembly District; Assemblyman Jim Silva represents the 67th Assembly District; and Assemblyman Van Tran represents the 68th Assembly District - which all include parts of Orange County.

I can't believe that Arnold is seriously considering letting these prisoners out for a tiny budget savings. Can he please change parties?
Tomorrow the Republican Assembly will be meeting to discuss if the sky is blue and if water is wet.
Great that these guys are doing the important work of the districts they represent.
Boy, I hope they let out these 22,000 prisoners into "Just..Asking's" neighborhood if he/she thinks it is not important work.
It is obvious that the sky is blue and water is wet. What is obvious about Arnold's plan to release prisoners and shorten parole? It is obviously a stupid idea, but it is not obvious that it won't happen.
I'm glad Silva, DeVore, Tran and Duvall are willing to try and get the law enforcement community to speak out against this.
Its the budget stupid!
Solve the budget issue thats what these leaders should be talking about.
Early release of felons, understaffed courts, understaffed parole officers, poor monitoring of sexual offenders, letting teachers go, crumbling bridges, leaking resevours, the list goes on.
Fix the budget and all our neighborhoods would be improved!
Early Release is part of Arnold's budget plan. He could balance the budget and release these dirt bags into our neighborhoods.
Fixing the budget is important, I agree, but let's also agree that releasing prisoners or shortening the monitoring of parolees should not be part of the solution.
