$100K In Tax Dollars For Promotional Arches In Garden Grove

Ultimately Supervisor Nguyen pulled that item from her Fund 130 allocation, so I figured wiser heads had prevailed.
It seems I was wrong, and the project has been winding its way through Garden Grove's permitting process, backed by the promise of that $100,000 from Janet.
Today's OC Register reports the Garden Grove Council will be voting on it tonight.
I have nothing against these arches. If the Downtown Business Association wants to erect them in hopes of attracting more customers to Main Street, by all means do so.
But county taxpayers shouldn't get knicked for $100K to pay for a marketing gimmick intended to boost business for a handful of merchants on a one-block stretch of Garden Grove.
That's just not government's job.
The arches are the brainchild of Downtown Business Association President Scott Weimer, a strong and long-time political supporter of Janet's, and I've no doubt the $100,000 in county funding for the Association's arches is an outgrowth of that. This is pure pork and a misuse of taxpayer dollars.
Sean Mill over at TheLiberalOC.com posts his take on the subject.

One after the other wasted our tax money:
1. Janet spent over 100K for her office furniture.
2. Janet give away $2.5 million for Bolsa bridge to Developer Frank Jao. (Frank Jao and Tony Lam are very closed in their business's deal)
3. 100K to build a decorating arche for the private association (Janet's brother-in-law has an office in this area).
It seems to me that Janet only serves and works for the special interest groups.
Funny this was approved back in November of last year Matt. Y bring this up now.
No, the $100K was on the December 18, 2007 Supes agenda, until Janet pulled the that item from the Fund 130 allocations.
I bring it up now because I thought it was dead until seeing the OCR article this morning.
Aside from being a financial supporter to Janet, Scott Weimer is also her landlord. I see a lot of hinkyness going on here Jubal.
To Anonymous 1:27:
A) Janet's office renovation was planned before she took office. I personally have been in her office since then and there is no "large screen TV" but the 1960's orange faded carpet was replaced and some updates done (probably for personal safety).
B)Janet did not "give away $2.5 Mil to Frank Jao. It is requested in the B1 money, but not yet received from the state. Besides, it doesn't go to Frank Jao, it goes to aid in traffic congestion in Little Saigon that has too many stores and not enough parking.
C)The $100K for the arches is news to me. I thought it had been dropped as well.
anon above
1. the $4k plasma screen waste was shot down by complaints from this blog and others.
2. $2.5M is now in Frank Jao's pocket, and the bridge WILL create more traffic jam in that area.
What happened to the 100K Anteater Exhibit in Santa Ana porked up by Janet Nguyen? Is that pork or is that just lots of ants?
Today, people are worried about high gas prices and slow economy.
Janet's wild, impulse spending habits needs to be watched carefully.. this is how she can make our county/state poor.
The Supe's spending spree without careful considerations can bring about another OC financial disaster.
