So glad the OC Law Enforcement Community could "join" Curt Hagman on Friday

I have to admit that as a seasoned campaign veteran of over twenty
years, a campaign really has to try hard to press my buttons.
It's not very easy to do, as I think that in all of those campaign
cycles, I've seen just about everything there is to see...
Let me caveat this post with two important points: (1) While I don't know Assembly GOP aspirant Curt Hagman very well, I've certain found him (and his family) to be very nice folks, and so this criticism is not really meant to be taken personally. (2) This is a read-fire-aim post, which is to say that I am incensed by something, and rather than waiting to "cool down" - I am just posting this right up on the site (much better for the drama seekers, eh).
Just a few minutes ago, I received what has to be the lamest, hubris-filled press release from a candidate that I have received in some time (and I get A LOT of them). Curt Hagman is running for the GOP nomination in AD 60 where Bob Huff is currently serving, as Huff is now campaigning for the State Senate...
Hagman puts out a press release via email (HagmanMedalofValor.pdf) entitled "Curt Hagman Honors 37 OCSD Deputies at Medal of Valor Luncheon" in which his campaign actually says, and this is a direct quote, "Chino Hills Mayor and Assembly candidate Curt Hagman was joined Friday at the Irvine Hyatt by over 800 members of the Orange County Sheriffs Department, their families and 11 city councils who contract with the OCSD at the 20th annual Medal of Valor Awards."
Well, isn't it nice that everyone could "join Curt" for this occasion?
Over the years, I have been to many Medal of Valor Awards events. The acts of bravery and heroism that are highlighted there are awesome, and those that put their life on the line are to be commented and thanked, and appreciated -- which is why the Sheriff's Department hosts this annual event.
Or did Curt put on this year's event? If you read the entire release, it makes it sound like Curt Hagman was the host of this year's awards ceremony.
Look, I think it is great that Curt attended the event. As someone who seeks to represent some of Orange County in the legislature, it is good for him to have an appreciation for our law enforcement community here. And, I should add, that Hagman's own record of volunteerism in his own county with the law enforcement community is worthy of praise.
That said, clearly this press release rubbed me the wrong way. Which goes to show you that how you phrase these things becomes very important, indeed. One can only imagine how all of the hundreds of awardees and other attendees at the event feel at the idea that they "joined Curt" for a few hours last week... Sigh.
Oh, I should add on a closing note -- I have not endorsed Curt or his primary opponent, Larry Dick.

Hmmm, sounds like much ado about nothing.
"Huh" - it just might be. It could just be that I was the only one annoyed by the release. Nevertheless, it bugged me and thanks to the poor judgement of Jubal, everyone here at RC/OC Blog is subject to my thoughts at my pleasure. LOL.
Haha, ok Jon, fair enough.
Gee Jon, I would have thought you had a much higher hubris-barf threshhold.
RP,I believe the treshhold is flexible to take in consideration supporters/opponents.
Was Curt's opponent even at this event?
I have received this E-mail, and I thought it was just fine with me.
Jon, have you been taking some wrong medications lately? Have you been sleeping well?
I am more concerned about your mental health than Curt's strong campaign efforts.
Curt, win!
Jon, if you found Curt to be a nice and a good candidate (as we did also), why don't you support him by giving your endorsement?
Jon,
Isn't that what politics is about. Is anything written a lie. He was joined, it didn't say at his request or that he was the organizer. Maybe you should take notes for your next run at the CRP presidents office.
Sounds like they are getting a little desperate for news....for the record I endorse Larry Dick. :-)
As a Deputy Sheriff who was also at the Medal of Valor Luncheon this past Friday, I too take offense at Mr. Hagman's press release. It was written as if he was in charge or at least a big part of the ceremonies. What? Who is this guy? Seems to me like he thinks he's all that and a bag of chips. I'd like to hear some of his fish tales too. I'm sure they be whoppers!
It's one thing to exagerate the truth but it's certainly another to twist it to elevate one's importance. Please stay home next year Mr. Hagman. We like to focus on our Heroes, not those who unsuccessfully try to blow their own horns. The day was not about you.
Let's see. The guy dosn't live in Orange County and has done NOTHING for anybody living in Orange County. But, he single-handedly organized the Medal-of-Valor program for the OC Sheriff's Department? Seems typical of the out-of-county candidates seeking to represent OC in this cycle. I'll take Dick and Blais over Chino and Corona any day!
Lame post by Jon. Everyone in Orange County knows he has a horse in this race. Orange County folks stick with Orange County folks. That is expected and I am completely comfortable with that process. However, claiming to be an impartial observer is just not honest. At the end of the day, the Hagman folks should view this as a cheap shot by the state party's southern vice chair.
Flowerszz, last week the hagman campaign released five endorsements, including howard jarvis. My guess is there's more coming this week.
Jon, you're feeling the power of the orange county delegation diminish and I understand your frustration. However, like Shadow just noted, it is nothing short of dishonest for you to claim not to have a horse in this race.
Oh anonymous ones. Methinks you don't know me too well.
I don't care about whether candidate A or B hails from Orange County, I care about who will be the most articulate, passionate and principled advocate for freedom and liberty in the State Legislature.
Period.
P.S. You should try stepping up and using your real names.
Anonymous @ 4:45 - musta missed that HUGE news....Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Desperate Larry Dick supporters making posts anonymously.
The post by various individuals from Orange County proves the point they have no regard to Los Angeles and San Bernardino County voters. They want their own guy. Orange County does not own the election or dictate who goes to the Assembly, the voters as whole in the 60th decide.
Where were all the OC supporters in 2004 in the Huff-Pacheco-MacAloney race? Now, they all come out of the bunker for Larry Dick....INTERESTING.
