California's Leading Tax Fighter and Highest Ranking Republican Woman, Michelle Steel, Endorses Harry Sidhu for State Senate
Anaheim, CA - Today, Board of Equalization Member Michelle Steel, California's leading elected taxpayer advocate and highest ranking Republican woman, announced her endorsement of Anaheim City Councilman Harry Sidhu for the 33rd State Senate District seat open due to term limits.
"Harry is a proven fiscal conservative who has demonstrated through his leadership in Anaheim, the 10th largest city in our state, that by keeping government small and taxes low, we have the ability to create and maintain one of the most business friendly, safest, family-oriented communities in the region," declared Steel, who represents more than 8 million taxpayers on the nation's only publicly elected tax board.
"I am honored to receive the endorsement of Michelle Steel, one of California's most respected fiscal officers," said Councilman Sidhu. "Year-after-year, we are faced with a budget crisis, and the frivolous spending that plagues our state needs to stop. I look forward to working with a dedicated conservative leader such as Michelle Steel to ensure that our state's so-called 'revenue problems' are not balanced on the backs of the hardworking taxpayers."
Harry Sidhu was elected to the Anaheim City Council in 2004. He currently serves on the City Audit Committee, has focused on keeping fees low and managing costs as an Orange County Sanitation District Director, and recently joined Michelle Steel in organizing a highly successful "Anaheim Small Business Fair and Resource Expo" attended by over 400 Orange County taxpayers and small business owners.

I like Mrs. Steel, but I'm not sure her endorsement means much in Orange County. BOE is one of those obscure down ballot positions that few people and voters know much about. (Full credit to her staff for trying to reduce the perception, but there won't be a sudden revolution in voter consciousness. She's only been in office for a year.)
Second, I guess I would say that her endorsement record so far has been mixed. She endorsed Rudy Giuliani, Mr. Authoritarian himself, for President. This is another questionable endorsement. Assemblywoman Walters has been endorsed by every Republican Orange County Senator, including the seat's incumbent, Senate Republican Leader Dick Ackerman. Absent Tran (?!), she's been endorsed by every Republican Assemblyman. Steel should have listened to Orange County Republicans, who have been virtually unanimous about this contest.
Final analysis: I like Steel but try to forget her endorsements.
So how did Walters do at Gen Next last week. Everyone seems to be real 'hush hush'.
I really like Michelle Steel, but this is obviously a "pay back" for Mimi's support of what's-his-name (from Riverside) who ran against Michelle two years ago.
Politics is politics.
Politics is politics, but sometimes you wish people could let bygones be bygones. Steel won, Haynes didn't. Both were reliable carriers of the conservative banner. It's too bad that couldn't be the end of it and the candidates in this primary couldn't be weighed on their merits.
