McCain Rolls into OC

Yesterday, McCain & Co. rolled up to the Orange County ATM machine to make a withdrawal. As the Republican's compromise candidate, McCain was able to tap those donors who had already maxed out to Romney, Giuliani, and Huckabee, but who are Johnny-come-lately supporters of the cantankerous Senator. His absurd positions on immigration, campaign finance reform, and judges are difficult for most Republicans to reconcile, but what are we going to do... vote for Obama?

"but what are we going to do... vote for Obama?"
no but Republicans may just stay home or vote for a third party candidate Scott. The only okay reason I have to vote for McCain is Supreme Court judges and even that is stretching it for me. Otherwise he is just going to be like Arnold Schwarzenegger reincarnated but on a grander scale. No thanks.
Allan - I have argued many times that it is important to identify candidates who are in alignment with your political principles, but at the end of the day it is more important to keep the ball moving down the field.
In some elections cycles, candidates appear, conditions materialize, and the stars align to move the ball farther down the field. Other times, we have to settle for smaller gains and very incremental progress. In fact, there are rare occasions when just holding on to the ball is victory.
2008 is one of those years and it is time for you, me, and those on the right to make the personal transition from clinging to political principles to embracing political pragmatism.
If you will indulge my football metaphor... I think most of us will agree that John McCain is the Republican party's 3rd string quarterback. Under no circumstances is he the guy most of us would have selected to lead us in the big game, but he is all we have. The long-term consequences of his failure (and our failure to support him) are simply not acceptable.

And sometimes you fumble 1/10 of a yard from the end zone and the opponent runs it back for a touch down. Thank you Governor Schwarzenegger. As the JDL says, Never Again!
