Ken Maddox Running In Capo Recall Election
Posted by: Jubal | 03/24/2008 7:36 PM
About an hour ago, I received an e-mail from the CUSD Recall campaign:
Please see the attached press release (and biographies) announcing the endorsement by the CUSD Recall Committee of two reform candidates, Sue Palazzo and Ken Maddox, who will run for election to the Board of Trustees of the Capistrano Unified School District in a special recall election to be calendared at tonight's CUSD Board meeting for a date this coming June or July."Ken Maddox?" I thought. As in, former Assemblyman and sometime Sheriff candidate Ken Maddox? That Ken Maddox?
I clicked on the attached bio and sure enough -- it's that Ken Maddox.
Trustees Marlene Draper and Sheila Benecke are certain to be recalled and Maddox and Palazzo to be elected in the accompanying replacement election. And since this is a political blog, I would be remiss in not indulging in the obligatory speculation on the ramifications of a Trustee Maddox.
Looking ahead six years to when 5th District Supervisor Pat Bates is termed out, Maddox -- as an incumbent trustee of a big school district and former state legislator -- would likely be a first-tier candidate for Bates' seat.

CUSD Recall

So now we know who the union will be backing.
Run, Ken, Run! I'm with you 100%.
A little birdy told me about this last week...:-)
I find it hilarious all the lateral and up & down moves these career OC politicians make constantly. Memo to "you know who you are"...there is a thing called the private sector. You can actually thrive there and not have to depend on making a living off of a city, county, or state gov.
Allan - some people love to do this work. Once it gets in your blood it is hard to get out. I for one would never run for office (well I should never say never - but I have no plans) but I LOVE to work behind the scenes. I say more power to those that choose to serve - it ia alot of commitment and work.
Career politician or not, Maddox did put his time in as a volunteer during the 2005 and 2007 CUSD recall campaigns. He understands the issues at CUSD and the need for reform, and with practical experience in politics and directing staff, he should make a good addition to the reform team on the CUSD board.
Ken Maddox did a great job in the Assembly. He will make an excellent school board candidate for the CSUD, and he would make an excellent County Supervisor.
Ken Maddox worked hard on the recall campaign for CUSD and deserves to be on the CUSD Board. The fact that he served in the State Assembly gives him invaluable experience in righting the ship at CUSD.
That's freaking awesome that Maddox is running, yeah baby!
I love Ken Maddox. Vote for Maddox for CUSD.
Allan,
I sincerely doubt one can live in Orange County and "make a living" off a school board seat. They pay is minimal.
All of these up/down moves are not about livelihood but about one or two other things:
1) desire to serve (as mentioned by flowerzzzz) or
2) ego.
or both.
"I say more power to those that choose to serve - it ia alot of commitment and work."
And yet it seems there are those who are addicted to both having office and exploiting (one way or another)the influence it brings. I won't mention any names (well, not yet, anyway).
Allan makes a good point. Whatever happened to the old Cincinnatus mind-set? Republican pols, especially, are forever extolling the virtues of the private sector - and yet, many seem to develop an positive personal allergy to the private sector environment.
..
Are you kidding? Maddox? Connected to Sheldon Group, the PR/lobbying firm. http://www.sheldonpublicrelations.com/ken_maddox.html
Sheldon group is embroiled in a lawsuit from Garden Grove business owners who claim Sheldon got a sweet heart deal.
Maddox was a Garden Grove councilman.
Sorry, career politicians should get a real job, instead of doing whatever is necessary to move into the top spots. Thought he wanted to be the Sheriff? Any job with power will do.
Hey Obvious Career Strategy,
Nice mudslinging. Why don't you connect the dots to Maddox for those who would like to know, but don't and feel slighted by your cryptic missile.
Wow- these politicians need to get a real job, not just float their names for all sorts of other elected jobs. As Republican, you should contribute to the economy and not live on the backs of taxpayers.
I will vote for whoever is NOT backed by the OC republican machine. The OC republican party no longer connects to what a true republican stands for. Instead, this group backs the chosen one, typically over a much more competent republican. Won't vote for Maddox, personable guy, but should forget about running for public offices. He should serve the community and be a boyscout leader. Ken is just being positioned to be put in a supervisor spot. How many school board meetings did Ken go to?
I don't like the idea of Ken Maddox using my kid as a stepping stone to the Supervisor's seat. By joining the Recall Group, he's aligned with those who would waste $700,000 on a recall when we are laying off amazing teachers. He's got no experience as a school board trustee and his political ambition is so easy to see through. Wrong choice for CUSD Parents, Teachers and Students. BTW... he's not doing it for the money, Trustees don't make much money (unless you run up extravagant expense reports like the now-under-investigation Draper), which obviates that this is raw ambition for power. "I'll run for legislature! I'll run for Sheriff! I'll run for anything! What do ya' got?!"
GEEZ! Give it up Ken. And stay away from my children's education.
Another politician that's always at the public trough. Hide the bank account number.
It is more than a little annoying that some people can't get real jobs (like the rest of us).
But, Draper and Benecke have to go. If Ken doesn't do a good job, we'll fire him...Won't we?
