Assemblyman Bob Huff Introduces Illegal Immigration Reform Package
Legislation will address California's increasing illegal immigration problem
Sacramento, CA (March 5, 2008) - California has become "home" to an estimated three million illegal immigrants who have crossed the state's porous borders seeking work and a better life. Many residing here illegally, including those who break laws not related to immigration, have created a drain on tax-funded benefits reserved for American citizens and legal immigrants. Assemblyman Bob Huff has introduced a package of five common sense bills to help address this growing problem.
AJR 44 - A bill circulating in Congress would repeal the section of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution allowing for birthright citizenship. This federal policy has resulted in citizenship for babies born in the United States to foreign visitors, and illegal immigrants. This lax policy has served to attract illegal immigrants looking for an easy way to claim state and federal benefits without going through the legal citizenship process. AJR 44 will urge Congress to pass that bill, and stop ignoring the crime of illegal immigration.
AB 2418 - This bill will deny bail to any illegal immigrant that has been charged with a gang-related crime or a violent felony. AB 2418 will ensure that illegal immigrant criminals receive the punishment they deserve for crimes committed and stop them from jumping bail to flee to their home country to avoid prosecution.
AB 2420 - San Francisco and Los Angeles have declared themselves "sanctuary cities," prohibiting their local authorities from cooperating with federal immigration officials. AB 2420 will stop local entities and authorities from establishing themselves as "sanctuary cities," eliminating conflicting governmental policies.
AB 2421 - Due to the federal government's inability and ineffectiveness to enforce immigration laws at the state level, AB 2421 outlines a business license revocation process for employers who hire illegal immigrants within California.
AB 2422 - This bill will require that local authorities report juveniles who have been charged with a violent felony to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, to ensure the dangerous juvenile is deported back to their home country. While it is difficult to find and deport illegal immigrants, those who commit violent felonies should be swiftly deported.
"While a comprehensive solution to illegal immigration must come from the federal government, it is time to stop wringing our hands, and adopt these common sense illegal immigration reform bills which will reduce the negative impacts of illegal immigrants on our society and state budget," stated Assemblyman Huff.
Assemblyman Huff is Chairman of the Assembly Republican Caucus. He represents portions of Orange, Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties.

THANK YOU to Assemblyman Bob Huff! Let's hope this opens the door for ALL our elected officials to come out of hiding on this subject.
Why is he wasting time with federal bills when he should be working his ass off on cutting the massive waste of budget funds here in California.
If Cook can't see the nexus between Assemblyman Huff's immigration package and "cutting the massive waste of budget funds here in California," I don't know what to tell him.
If the Feds won't do it, the states will! That's a great package by Bob Huff! Now, let's get it into law!
My face is red, I miss read and thought those are congress bills instead of California bills.
Of course if the assemblyman really wanted to reduce the waste he should work on elimination of the full time legislature.
The illegal alien has not proposed, established, or enacted any law in California to benefit them financially or otherwise. All of those laws were passed by our full time legislatures.
It is about time someone takes the time to care about California. Since Proposition 187 passed and was deceitfully turned on by the Revolutionaries in the government we have been Dictated to.
It is about time we have some legislators that take their oaths of office seriously.
The Constitution of the United States of America
Article IV Section 4.
The United States shall guarantee to every state in this union a republican form of government, and shall protect each of them against invasion; and on application of the legislature, or of the executive (when the legislature cannot be convened) against domestic violence.
Finally! Someone is addressing the issue. I think the most important part is going after the employers of illegal aliens. If there are no jobs, they will leave. Take a look at what Arizona and Oklahoma have done with there recent laws on employing illegal aliens. IT WORKS, and the problem goes away.
Great News! But is there a "reciprocal agreement" with Mexico that they will put those felons in Jail that we deport back to them? Where I work we had a bad experience with that. A subcontractor of housekeeping services had an illegal alien as an employee (had false documents). The guy robbed us blind. Got caught. Got incarcerated. Got deported to Mexico. Got on the next bus/route back here. Robbed us blind again. Got caught. Currently doing time in a California State Prison for Grand Theft. If we deport this guy, will Mexico keep him in lock up so he doesn't get on the next route back here again?
