Bill Hunt Gets Firefighters Union Endorsement

Posted by: Jubal | 03/03/2008 11:13 AM

Peggy Lowe at Total Buzz reports that the Orange County Professional Firefighters Association has endorsed Bill Hunt for Sheriff, and provides a link to the endorsement letter.

What impact will that have on the Board of Supervisors' decision? Personally, I don't think much. It does cement the perception Bill hunt is the union candidate, which will hardly help his efforts to make inroads among Republicans.

And those with memories will recall that Hunt never took a public position on Measure D, the OCPFA-backed initiative to claim a share of Prop. 172 funds for OC firefighters.

Measure D's main opponent? The Association of Orange County Deputy Sheriffs, whose endorsement Hunt was working to get at the time.

Now all Hunt needs to do is go out and get some Command experience and he might have a chance!

Now, c'mon, Puttintain--Carona didn't have any command experience and look what he did for the department...oh, um, wait a second...never mind

Bill Hunt has more command experience in the OCSD than anyone else in the mix who is trying to sneak into the Sheriff's Office via appointment. Hunt is the ONLY ONE who has worked at all levels in all facets of the OCSD: Jails, Academy, SWAT, Narcotics, Undercover, Patrol...NONE OF THE OTHER candidates can state that fact. NONE OF THE OTHER candidates has the trust and confidence of those in uniform within the OCSD to lead them.

Now, for the first time in over ten years, Fire and Law Enforcement agree on the same guy - Bill Hunt. This is in spite of the fact that as Jubal said, Hunt stayed out of the Measure D fight. Why? Because he was thoroughly disgusted at seeing Carona go back on his word against Fire from his campaign promise in 1998 and then watched him throw the AOCDS under the bus to fight his fight while Carona was no where to be seen. Hunt believed it was a total breakdown of leadership from Carona that led to that awful mess and he was right. It could have and should have been settled without wasting taxpayer dollars in that nasty election.

The fact that Bill Hunt was straight-forward then, won him the respect of even those who might have disagreed with him. That's why he's now received the endorsement of the fine men and women in the OCFA as well that of AOCDS. If nothing else, this new endorsement shows the ability to pull different sides together without compromising integrity and ethics - something we sorely need in our new Sheriff.

Those who have endorsed Bill know that he makes no other promise or "deal" other than this: He will Restore Integrity and Trust to the Sheriff's Department and he wil return the role of Orange County's Sheriff to that of Public Safety, where it belongs.

For the first time in a long time, as Sheriff, Bill Hunt will work WITH OCFA and the Chiefs of Police of the non-contracted cities in O.C. to develope and put forth the best law enforcement/criminal deterrent/emergency response team, on behalf of the residents of our County - regardless of who gets the credit for increasing Public Safety.

Just like John Moorlach did with the Treasurer's Office, Bill Hunt was the ONLY ONE of the candidates to stand up and tell us what was going on in the Sheriff's Department under Carona's Administration. Both men were right. However, Bill Hunt and his family paid the ulitimate price for his efforts: It cost him his job to do the right thing on behalf of the voters.

Bill Hunt has EARNED THE RIGHT to be our Sheriff. He is the most deserving and the most qualified; professionally and ethically.

Gee, Tim, never would have guessed it! Hunt is still an immature hothead. Fix that.

Hey, knock me over...you forgot that he also has a certifiable nut as a campaign manager...

Hey Tim,

I remember hearing you blast Janet at the Central Committee meeting stating you have a good man standing right here for Sheriff I don't understand why you elected to hire a search company.... You were refering to Jack Anderson... So who are you really pimping for Tim!!!!!!! Hey good move though you really think Supervisor Nguyen is going to go for your boy now.... after the stunt you pulled

I'm not sure if Hunt loses anything with this endorsement. It is not like the GOP establishment is rallying around the guy anyway.

You pick up support where ever you can.

For all of those who keep talking about Hunt coming in 2nd. What if evertime a president died in power we brought in the guy who finished second. Or maybe even the guy who ran agaisnt him. You logic escapes me! You can keep saying it over and over, but it just shows your ignorance.

Hunt lost by a lot( Carona had twice the votes as Hunt), but even if he didn't, there is a new field of candidates. If if were brought to a vote, Hunt would loose again.

Hey ORGCO50,

We have a secession plan for President, so we know who will be next should he die in office. In the case of the position of sheriff, it's left up to the BOS to find his/her replacement.

If you're 50, take advantage of the retirement while you can and move on...you're showing your ignorance.

Your kidding, all those assingments Hunt has worked is equivalent to a jail deputy in Los Angeles. He has no real experience. Santa ana pd and a fewparts of Anaheim are the only real cities with any type of crime problem and that's small. Policing mission viejo, lake forest, san clemente, alisio viejo, come on, those cities police themselves.
Lets not forget, HUNT was Carona guy until the falling out with Haidl and the marirjuana tape that leaked out top the press. Only when Carona turned his back on him, did Hunt say all this stuff was worng. Hes all scandal, just like Carona. What they should do, is send all the OCSD deps to Los Angeles and learn how to do real police work. What a joke OCSD is. The police agencies out here laugh at OCSD.

You can keep LA said:

Nah, we'll pass on going to LA to do the "real police work". We'll leave that up to all of you "real cops" up there. We too could have applied to work in that hell hole but we had presence of mind to say, "Hell to the No!". We'd rather have less action here and live a better quality of life. Hope you don't get too jaded or disillusioned. Enjoy your laugh. We're laughing too... all the way to the bank!

how did Hunt get fire's endorsement? I bet he's planning on giving them 172 funds, if given the chance. He was noticeably absent when the rest of us were all campaigning on measure D. Hmm... very interesting.
