AD71 Watch: Blais Campaign Responds

This just came over the transom from the Neil Blais campaign in response to the round fired at them by the Jeff Miller campaign:
Jeff Miller Opens Campaign with Attacks
Miller Accuses Blais of "Joining" the Republican Party
(Orange) - Candidate Jeff Miller has a lot to hide in his record on the Carona Council, which explains why today he opened his campaign by not talking about himself, but rather attacking conservative Republican Neil Blais. But, the Miller attack fell far short of having any relevance, as he was basically accusing Neil Blais of joining the Republican Party over a decade ago.
"Blais is a rock solid conservative and always has been," said Blais spokesman Tim Clark. "He was a Reagan voter throughout the 80's and a Bush voter in the 90's. After realizing that the Republican Party was the party that represented his values, Neil joined the party well over a decade ago."
"Neil Blais is the conservative in this race, and that's why he's gained the endorsement of so many staunch Republicans," continued Clark. "And, Miller knows he has huge flaws for which to atone, including a laundry list of taxes and fee increases, huge eminent domain abuses, and even supporting making Caesar Chavez's birthday a paid city holiday - all at taxpayer expense."
"That would explain why Miller is grasping at anything in which to attack Neil Blais," concluded Clark.

Neil still has his campaign chair on his mind, Mike Carona.
It's Corona Neil...
Hey Phil, long time away. How ya doin?
Lets see, eminent domain abuses, tax and fee increases, and a Ceasar Chavez holiday?
Sure doesn't sound like Miller is CRA endorsement material to me. And it sounds like when all of this comes out during the campaign, your boy is going to have a real problem with the voters.
geez--here we go again. What is the over under on these two shutting down the comment section on the Blais posts....
Karl --
When a motion passes 4-1 with Miller dissenting, that means he voted no. I know it is alwats 5-0 in your city, which has what 4 gas stations and no growth, but in the real world -- where you don't debate the monument sign for two years and then screw it up, there is such a thing as a "no" vote.
Miller uses it, Gary, and you don't -- unless it is to forget to add fire stations to cities.
What irony. When a Dem or DTS gets elected to nonpartisan office in OC, they start getting pressured to reregister as a Republican. The pressure is intense, as anyone who's ever gone through it can tell you.
But if someone actually DOES make the change, then they're beaten up about it!!!
What does it take to satisfy you people?
Actually Missy you have made the right point. What Miller and his people have done is exactly the mentality that has alienated many converted Dems and DTs's. And Scott Baugh wonders why this party is going in the tank? What Baugh ought to do is come out in spades with a strong repudiation of what Miller has done. It may be a camapign, but at what expense to the Republican Party and the cost in potential lost voters in the big picture?
Of course Miller could care less about that.
And the response to you by the Miller supporter "NOTE TO MISSY" pretty much tells you something about Miller's character.
So Neil joins to GOP after moving to OC 11 years ago and after voting for the likes of Jimmy Carter, Fritz Mondale, etc. and we are supposed to trust him?
Karl Rove I have news for you. The DTS do not vote in the GOP Primary. Also Attacking Scott Baugh only make the case that you and Neil have no understanding of a Republican Primary. Go back to running your HOA errrrr City.
How do ANY of you folks know who the guy voted for? Diebold hasn't been around that long.
Being a registered Democrat doesn't mean a person always voted for Democrats. And it's been at least 10 years.
I guess only people who are lifelong Republicans are now eligible to run for the Republican nomination.
"Scott Baugh wonders why this party is going in the tank?"
I don't think that is what Scott wonders....he wonders why he has to support such a horrible candidate like Neil and go behind the scenes to do the work Neil just can't get done. I think next we will see Baugh and Ackerman aren't sitting behind Neil at RSM HOA meetings telling him how to vote.
Phil,
See, you proved my point. You don't "get" the big picture. Who said anything about the primary? The big picture is the general, and if you go back and look, you'll note that I referred to offices that we had and have lost. Sanchez's office comes to mind.
The point is, Dems and DTSs vote in the general and what your boy is doing is telling them they are not good enough to be republicans. So what do you think they are going to do? They are going to go the other direction.
But you probably never thought of that Phil because you really don't understand the big picture.
so i say again, Scott Baugh should send a strong repudiation of Miller's alienation of a voting base that the Republican Party needs if it is ever going to have a chance of regaining a majority in this state.
Gary
I thought we were talking about the 71st Assembly District ....which the last time I looked was all about winning the Primary. Perhaps you are thinking about the gerneral at your HOA elections
...and another thing I really like the way this issue is turning into a Corona(Riverside) issue versus a RSM(Orange County)issue.
Sounds great! Hopefully, the papers will pick up on the "Do you want someone who represents Corona, representing you?" idea.
Let's compare cities:
Corona-Southern California's cow town. Have you been there, lately? Not nice. A place people live but don't work or stay over night.
Rancho Santa Margarita- safe, secure and a well run
Karl Rove: I didn't see the "Note to Missy." Perhaps Jubal deleted it. If so, it must have been a doozy.
SHE says:
I attended the CRA endorsements meeting today. I believe Miller got the endorsement.
Red County readers. Let me tell you how Jeff Miller was able to capture the CRA endorsement. His supporters engaged in a very clever strategy and tactics plan that was never challenged by the CRA Membership Sec. and CRA Board. Virtually overnight, just before the CA presidential primary election, six or seven brand new unts were created in the city of Carona and it's immediate surroundings.
I need to advise you that the CRA Membership Secretary is (or was) Peggy Mew who also was Chief of Staff for former 29th SD Senator Richard L. Mountjoy who just happens to have endorsed Jeff Miller in this 71st AD race. The city of Carona should never have been granted this broad membership with voting rights to tilt the balance when OC represents around 75 percent of the electorate.
I served as President of the Saddleback Republican Assembly, SRA, for four years in my 12 year membership. We represent all of the residents of Mission Viejo, Lake Forest, Laguna Hills and Laguna Niguel with a combined population of 275,000 residents. The city of Carona has a total of 150,000.
As reported, the voting has ended. However, as I hear allegations of councilman Jeff Miller having voted in support of eminent domain I will surely be blogging every one of those Carona city council actions.
Larry Gilbert, former SRA unit president
Larry are you suggesting Dick Mountjoy rigged the election for Jeff Miller? Or could it be that Jeff's campaign out worked within the existing rules Neil's campaign?
One clarification--40% of the district is in Riverside County, not 25%. And Corona the City is spelled differently than Neil's campaign chairman.
Best of luck with the blogging! Hope that strategy works.
Larry, dude, paisan, compadre, you are really missing the point of the endorsement "tactics" from Miller's campaign.
It appears that, working within the rules set by CRA, Miller was able to garner the endorsement of the 71st CRA units. Within the same rules, Neil could not.
Now which one do you think will do a beter job in Sac? The one who carried the vote with, as you put it, only "25%" of the electorate, or the candidate who, with all the advantages, got schooled???
There is no positive spin on this for Blais. Blais will get spanked on day one in Sac, and we all know it. We do not need lightweights in office with the R by their name, we need the ones who can get things done. Sorry Larry, tears and whining about "supporters engaged in a very clever strategy and tactics plan" will do Neil no good. Sac is full of them, all we know that Blais cannot play with the big boys.
I was stunned to learn that Miller recieved the CRA Endorsement. I thought Neil and is top campaign guy Karl Rove knew everything there was in winning GOP nominations. Hard to believe that a country bumpkin from Riverside County spanked the smart guys from the RSM HOA. Keep up the good work Team Blais !!!!!!!!
As stated in my response the CRA vote was taken and we move on. That said, if I find any evidence of Jeff Miller supporting the taking of anyone's home or business for private gain throught eminent domain police powers, you will hear from me again.
Larry- to impugn the character of Peggy Mew in the name of Neil Blais is despicable. She is nothing more than a Republican servant and doesn't deserve the treatment you are giving her.
What does deserve investigation is a Blais tactic of attempting to disenfranchise a rightfully voting delegate. Team Blais made a failed attempt to discredit a delegate from Coronan in an effort to tilt the vote in his favor. I guess when you are unsuccessful getting support from the delegates one should try to throw out your opponents with complete disregard of the rules.
Good thing Peggy Mew was there to set the record straight!
Actually Peggy Mew admitted that the delegate in question was officially listed on the membership roster of two CRA Units. That is a violation of CRA By-laws. Her reasoning that "his membership was expiring in two weeks" was a poor excuse for committing such a major By-law violation.
Tim Whitaker, as the Parlimentarian agreed and tried to get the decision of the board reversed. But he was over ruled, which in itself is another violation.
After the meeting, one of the board members admitted that they had made a mistake and the delegate shouyld have been disqualified.
So to accuse Blais of some underhanded tactic when there was a clear violation of the CRA By-laws is ludicrous.
Gosh CRA Delegate - if you were there then you know that the delegate in question had resigned from the first CRA unit and joined the other CRA unit, and the first CRA unit did not properly adjust their records to reflect that he had resigned from the first unit.
Seems to be a lot of that going around, records not correctly reflecting who belongs to what unit....
I don't have a horse in this race, it's not my district and I don't know either candidate but let's be fair about reporting what happened.
