1st Supe Watch: What the Democratic Candidate is Doing

Posted by: Tomahawk | 03/31/2008 10:41 AM

Thumbnail image for hoa_van_tran.jpgWhile much of the focus have been on Janet and Dina, let's take a closer look at Hoa Tran, the Democratic standard-bearer in the 1st Supervisorial District.

As of March 17, Hoa raised a total of $46,800 with $20,000 of it as personal loan.  Aside from Democratic boss Frank Barbaro who contributed $500, Hoa has receive absolutely nothing from any other Democratic or labor heavyweights in Orange County.  According to my sources, Loretta Sanchez, Lou Correa and Jose Solorio are still undecided.  This begs the question as to why they are not doing more to help the only Democrat running in this race.

For a first time candidate, Hoa is running television commercials on Saigon Broadcasting Television Network, a Vietnamese language cable station based in Garden Grove.  I also spotted a few "Hoa Van Tran for Supervisor" yard signs in Little Saigon while driving through Bolsa Avenue yesterday.

That's about it for now, I'll keep you posted if there's any new development with Hoa Tran's campaign.

Since Hoa and Dina work in the same law office, they can coordinate their anti-Janet activities very nicely. This was a smart move by Tran's staff.

It should be obvious to anyone that Mr. Hoa Van Tran, Dina Nguyen's friend and law office colleague, is in the race for one reason - to keep Supervisor Janet Nguyen from being reelected outright in the June primary. Dina's strategy, it seems, is to siphon enough Democratic and/or uninformed voters away from the Supervisor such that no candidate has more than 50% of the vote on June 3rd. Clearly the Democrats are seeing through this charade. I am surprised that members of my own party seem to be having a difficult time grasping this.

Looks like Hoa Van Tran is getting top billing at Nguoi Viet's web site today, too.

Slice, do not underestimate Hoa Tran, he has been building his own support blog to topple Janet.

If Dina continues with her good campaigning, Dina can have 50 and 1 in this June.

Janet is having to fight a rather lonely/losing fight.....she has no real friends from republican party.

Art Pedroza said:

LOL! Why would the Dems do anything to help Hoa? Not only does he refuse to speak ill of Assemblyman Van Tran, he also has NO CHANCE of winning. He was recruited as a vote-splitter to help Joe Dunn. Once Dunn decided not to lose to Janet, the Dems were stuck with Hoa. He will be little more than a speed bump and Janet will run him and Dina over in June.

Art Pedroza, having a heartburn with taco de legua again? Hoa has been working hard to build a visible Viet voting blog for this June primary and he is going to be more than a speed bump for Janet...more like a 12ft concrete wall......... for already out of steam/money Janet!

Dina will come in first .....Janet and Hoa too close to call for second place.

Let me reiterate...your posts add a comic, childlike quality to this blog. However, this blog is for serious people and frankly your posts do not enrich, inform or educate anyone about anything. Your "ranting" style has grown old. Take it somewhere else.

Anon.4:30 aka Janet's L Associate, keep reiterating your self over and over again.......but it's time to see the reality.....your boss Janet is in trouble because of her own mis behavior against good republican friends. Tell me if any of Janet's own Vietnamese elected officials are supporting her.....I think the it's zero, zip and none!

Studenttt said:

Dina now lead by 70 point in new poll. Janet done, finish, zip!

Janet's siblings, instead of using my handle, go find more DINERO contributors like... Art Pedroza.

It's funny to see how hard Janet Nguyen tries to link Dina and Hoa Tran together, when in fact they are running fully independent campaigns.

Other than being legal colleagues, there is not a shred of evidence that they are coordinating their camapign against Janet Nguyen, who is already in a lot of political hot water. Let's try to stick to the facts and not rumors and innuendoes here.

As for Hoa Tran not speaking ill of Van Tran, why should or would he? It would be stupid to go off a tangent. Why would he wanted to pick an uneeded fight with Van Tran. Just look at what happened with Janet right now for stabbing Van Tran in the back.

Hoa Tran speaks ill of Janet Nguyen, his opponent for doing a lousy job as Supervisor. And that's where his guns ougta be trained on -- the controversial incumbent.

Hoa Tran is also on Little Saigon Radio every week. He's getting his name out there and will be a formidable candidate.

QUESTION: What do Janet Nguyen, Lou Correa and Loretta Sanchez have in common, other than being wishy-washy on issues?

ANSWER: They will do anything to get ahead and only care about themselves.

QUESTION

Answer: Nguyen, Correa, Sanchez

Question: Who is your Supervisor, State Senator, and Congresswoman?

What they have in common is they are winners! Just because you don't like it, doesn't change the facts. The term is "Scoreboard".

QUESTION

Answer: Nguyen, Correa, Sanchez

Question: Who is in real trouble for coming June Primary election?

I guess the correct answer would be Janet Nguyen!

"Hoa Tran speaks ill of Janet Nguyen, his opponent for doing a lousy job as Supervisor."

Anonymous 6:54, I'm curious. Can you defend that statement? Can you cite one instance of Supervisor Nguyen doing a lousy job? Can you name one vote that you or Mr. Tran find objectionable. Convince me, please.

Are you blind? said:

Slice,

Such arrogance from you! Janet Nguyen can't do no wrong in your eyes. Keep your eyes closed.

The latest incident, in a strings of problems, is the Bolsa bridge project in which Janet Nguyen politicized for herself and tried to pass to the community that it was a done deal with drawings and designs, when in fact, it is anything but.

Applications have not even sent to the state and Westminster knows nothing about it other than the last minute knowledge of Mayor Margie Rice, who is a Janet ally and a ppublicity hound. Even Margie has to retract later and promised the Westminster City Council not to pull a stunt like that again!

This entire project shows once again that Janet only cares for herself in scoring political points, at the expense of eeverybody else around her. Business as usual!

Slice,

Look at the Little Saigon Welfare Office.

Why and do we need something like this at the expense of nearly 200K a year? It's your and my money for Janet Nguyen to play politics, baby.

This move by Janet is worse than bad.
