1st Supe District Watch: Janet's Latest Fund 130 Dollops
Posted by: Jubal | 03/31/2008 11:18 AM
Each county supervisor gets an annual pot o' pork to dollop out within their district. It's called Fund 130 District and Community Priorities and Projects and it's $1 million, if I recall correctly.
Tomorrow's OC Board of Supes agenda contains Sup. Janet Nguyen's latest proposed Fund 130 allocations, totaling $262,500:
Tomorrow's OC Board of Supes agenda contains Sup. Janet Nguyen's latest proposed Fund 130 allocations, totaling $262,500:
$85,000 for a dog park in Garden Grove. It's good to be the incumbent. And it's especially good for an incumbent to have Fund 130 during a tough re-election.
$17,500 for a wheelchair walkway in Garden Grove's Kiwanisland Park.
$10,000 for a "park improvement" in Russell C. Paris Park in Westminster, including a memorial to the late Councilman Russell C. Paris.
And the biggest dollop: $150,000 to buy playground equipment for elementary schools in the Garden Grove Unified School District.

Anything for us living in Santa Ana?
Janet got you guys in her last round of Fund 130 dolloping.
Matt,
Yes she did. BTW, don't ALL the supervisors have Fund 130 money to spend? How about an update on how they are spending this money?
Art, I post about Fund 1309 allocations when I see them on the agenda.
Matt/jubal,
Not sure what your take on these expenditures are? You for or against them, or just reporting?
They sound like good community projects (lacking other detail) that will make lasting improvements in the community. Hope the other supes do likewise with their fund 130 projects.
The incumbent "pork" spending goes to each Supervisor. It will be interesting to watch Budget Hearings this year in a tight budget environment. I will bet progam spending will be cut but "Fund 130 pork" is likely not to be touched. Anyone think differently.....?
One man's pork is another man's sidewalk, school lunch bench, a wheelchair ramp, etc...
If these are pork bring it on!
These projects a not bridges to nowhere they seem to be helping real people, the very people the supes represent. If the money was going to special interest groups or plaques and statues to themselves that would be another story, THATS PORK.
Just....asking, "If the money was going to specical interest groups...THAT'S PORK"
yeah, what about $2.5 millon bridge Janet was going to build it in the Westminster city? But not in the other cities she is also serving?
There's no bridge being built because there's no money and approval from the state or the city. Janet Nguyen just pulled a fast one on the Viet community and people will find out soon enough!
Not sure what your take on these expenditures are? You for or against them, or just reporting?
I happened to see it on the agenda and decided to put it out there for readers' consumption. Leaving aside the question of whether there should be a Fund 130, they all seem like perfectly legitimate uses of Fund 130 monies.
Matt/Jubal,
Thanks for the clarification.
As for the trannies bringing up the bridge issue, Fund 130 funds were not proposed for the bridge. Different source of funds. As I typed before if Westminster doesn't want the pedestrian bridge they just don't have to apply for the state bond monies, its very simple.
But if a pedestrian bridge improves traffic flow, and improves safety of residents, that is what the bond monies are supposed to accomplish. Critical to receiving state money is support from your county supervisor. So if Westminster wants the bridge, Janets' support is critical. If they don't want it, just say no thanks!
Since I haven't heard anything from the city yet they must think there is some value to the project. For the good of your community why don't you guys just say thanks to Janet.
Just Spending Borrowed Money.......Yes, our state is only short of $11 billion this year because of bond, credit line........... govt. spending habits.
When do you want to INCREASE our taxes Janet?
Just Asking?
Thanks but ... No Thanks, Janet, for your spoiled pork!! Don't want the voters to get food poisoning once they had them.
Westminster leaders knows nothing about Janet's pork and they don't want this kind of waste being spent on their behalf, without their input and decision.
take your pork somewhere else and save the taxpayers real money!
