1st Supe District Watch: An All-Vietnamese Primary
Posted by: Jubal | 03/07/2008 7:39 PM
The 1st Supervisor District gave Orange County its first Vietnamese-American Supervisor.
Now it's given us our first all-Vietnamese primary.
Filing has closed and the three candidates are all Vietnamese-Americans (Democrat Paul Lucas ended his quixotic campaign today):
Supervisor Janet NguyenAs readers know, the Nguyens are Republicans and Tran is a Democrat.
Garden Grove Councilwoman Dina Nguyen
Attorney Hoa Van Tran.
Dina Nguyen apparently ran into another snag this afternoon when it turned out she hadn't filed a Form 700 financial interests disclosure form, as required. I'm told she scrambled at the end, with the assistance of Westminster Councilman Andy Quach and Mike Schroeder, to get it completed and filed with the Registrar of Voters by 5:00 p.m.
It's been a year since the special election in which Janet Nguyen was elected by 3 votes, and it's telling that during the intervening 12 months the best the OC Democrats could come up with in this marginally Democratic district is the unknown Hoa Van Tran. Once Joe Dunn pulled the football away Charlie Brown, there was no back-up.

Jubal,
Your coverage is extraordinary...I'd be interested in an op-ed piece exploring the factors behind Trung's decision to bow out of the race...
I had a chance to attend the G.G. School Board meeting where Trung and Lan sit 1 & 2 as the VP and P of the Schoolboard...I had been meaning to ask Trung about his election bid but he was apparently suffering from the stomach flu...
A reliable source noted that even 2 days prior to the deadline, Trung was uncertain of his bid...my guess is that financial debt played heavily into the decision, however was not the decisive factor...'Team Tran' reportedly mentioned that they could only support 1 candidate...only those in the inner circle will truly know...
Janet lied again tonight. She and her co-hort and employee, Andrew Do, announced on Little Saigon Radio tonight there are three Vietnamese American candidates and one white candidate. She wanted to play a victimized candidate card again and asked the Viet's votes to protect the community's interest, not hers. Mean while, she knew very well that there is no other candidates beside three Vietnamese candidates.
Obviously, she lied to the Viet voters and listeners by saying there is a white candidate, which is not true. She shows same lying character but the result will be different this time.
Janet's in trouble and she knows it. She and her hired help, Andrew Do and "Attorney" Nick Le Cong are frantically going on Viet news media in the past weeks claiming all types of credit in bringing the pork home to the 1st District. We hope that she and her cohorts keep this up, just like the last election when she make all types of wild claims and stealing credits, which ending up blowing up in her face when she was exposed by the brigt sunshine of truths and facts.

Republicans need to stop "bringing the pork home..."
That's how we lost Congress.
9:28, the white candidate she referred to was Paul Lucas, who just dropped out. At the time of the interview, he was still in the race.
How could Paul Lucas still be in the race when the interview on Little Saigon Radio was live, Friday night, when the filing is already closed several hours previous?
Are we to believe that Janet does not know who her opponents are, or is she caught lying to the public again? It's disgusting to use race and, in this case, against a supposed white candidate, to protect your own job.
OC Native,
It was an outrageous lie from Janet and her cohort, Andrew Do. They drummed a race card again to protecte this seat for the Viet community (or hers?). She can't hide the fact that the seat will be in the Viet community no matter who wins. The interview was four hours away from the closing deadline at 5PM. How can you say that she or her cohort didn't know? She's not a naive person as she tries to portray.
Real Information:
If you go to the Registrar of Voters website you will see that the candidates were not certified until Saturday March 8. Look at the log. Tell the truth. JANET DID _NOT_ know Friday night that the "white" candidate, Paul Lucas had ended his bid. It is you who spread unfounded lies when the truth is evident right on the Registrar of Voters web site. Go see for yourselves. You OWE JANET an apology, but I won't be holding my breath for that.
Stop the lies!
Anon Above,
Will Janet now acknowledge that there is no Caucasian candidate running?
Also, stop playing the race card in Central OC. Enough divisions already. It's pathetic when she's married to a White guy, but then went on the air to play the politics of race and division. It's hypocritical of Janet and dishonest as well.
Because someone says there is a caucasian running, three Vietnamese six Hispanics, five Samoans, 4 Koreans, etc. etc. etc. does not make one a racist.
If we all said there are three people running and left out the word "Vietnamese" completely, completely out of all rhetoric regarding this political position; the loudest we would hear would be from the Vietnamese who believe they are responsible for the McCain victory in Orange County; and who think they are "reshaping the political landscape of Orange County". So you should not by so hypocritical yourself. You are proud of being Vietnamese, proud of your machine and you wouldn't have it any other way.
No White Elephant In The Room:
Sorry, you are such a bunch of liars. Look at Jubal's original post. He posted at 7:39PM Friday and he knew all-Vietnamese candidates. So you and your cohorts didn't know.
I am sorry but I can't take that lie again.
Anon 4:44PM
Yes, it is a racist remark if your candidate, Janet Nguyen, wants to play that way. She made a claim to her Viet voters that there is another white candidate (she literally said that in Vietnamese) to drum up her claim of a victimized candidate. And the outcome she wanted them to hear is that the Viet community will lose her seat to a white candidate. What else don't you understand.
good going again Janet and Andrew Do ... Janet's team just keep stabbing them selves ... protect the community's interest? ... is she contradicting herself because she is married to a white man and he is supposably protecting her ... is he a threat to the community or is she ...?
