Stand Up For Traffic Relief And Common Sense At Coastal Commission Tomorrow
Posted by: Jubal | 02/05/2008 10:42 AM
Tomorrow is a big day, as the mice-uber-alles crowd swarms tomorrow's California Coastal Commission meeting, where the Commission will vote on whether the proposed 241 completion route complies with the California Coastal Act.
The enviros will be all over the hearing, which will be held at the Del Mar fairground in San Diego County, falsely claiming completing the 241 will ruin Trestles beach, wipe out a mouse no one has been able to catch and a trout no one has seen, and "destroy" San Onofre State Beach.
The Transportation Corridor Agencies encourages those who are interested in standing up for traffic relief and common sense over hysteria to attend the commission meeting. TCA can arrange transportation, etc -- so those interested should click here for more information.

241 Tollroad

Keep on sucking that concrete teat, Matt.
Your 'strategic partner' Michele Miller, former spokesperson for the Transportation Corridor Agencies, and her old bosses at the TCA must appreciate your support.
Alex:
Michele is my friend, but I haven't worked on a project with her for nearly 5 years.
Keep on exaggerating.
Jeez Matt, even Clint Eastwood has come out against this toll road; if you don't have a dog in this hunt, why are you so gung ho about this.

So what about Eastwood? You act is if he's some kind of conservative.

Maybe because I think -- as I have been blogging for the last couple of years -- that completing the 241 is a good idea, and that the enviros are shocking liars who, by and large, happily place the interests of flies, rats and toads ahead of people.
Jubal you freakin idiot, there are other ways to improve traffic than building another freeway/tollroad. LA has many freeways, most are still crowded every day. Mass transit will help traffic .
Ryan, you are certainly an eloquent fellow.
Mass transit, huh? Maybe you can sprinkle some pixie dust on all those motorists out there who selfishly drive their cars and magically spark in them an overwhelming desire to ride the bus or the train for the good of the planet. Because everyone's lives synch perfectly with the train or bus schedules.
Jubal,
You couldn't have said it anymore clearer. Building the tollroad promotes the selfish desire to want everything "my" way, and not the "right" way. You need to look beyond yourself and understand that there are plenty of people who are open to the idea of a mass transit station as an alternative choice for transportation. Some will use it one day, others another day, but at least it's there. The tollroad is a greedy project both from the people who are building it, and the people who will use it. The TCA doesn't care about traffic, they care about making money. You know, greed, selfishness are part of the 7 deadly sins.
Ryan:
Boy, isn't that just the problem with people? Always doing what they want, instead of following the directives of enlightened folks like you who know what's best for them.
Good luck finding all those people who are ready and/or able to organize their families and busy lives around a bus and train schedule.
Next, maybe you can work up a Five Year Plan, comrade.
And you know all the answers too, comrade. If we keep listening to you and people like you, then we'll all be living our lives below, behind, above, and next to large concrete expressways just so everyone has their own personal road to drive on. Question for you, do you ever get out of your car and go hike, mountainbike or visit the remaining open space we have in this County. Maybe you should, it would change your thoughts on saving open space for the future. It's not okay to pave a tollroad through a preserved park. Why don't you move to LA where there are plenty of freeways. Probably because you like the peace and quiet of OC. Well that will change if we continue to build more concrete jungle.
I don't pretend to know all the answers, but experience makes it pretty clear that people find automobile travel much more convenient for their varied and busy lives.
I do get out. I enjoy nature and the beauty of the outdoors. I just don't worship it, or subscribe to the hysterical notion that completing this road is somehow going to "destroy" San Onofre State Park or turn OC into a "concrete jungle." it flies in the face of reality and common sense.
The car is convenient for varied and busy lives, but it becomes stressful when you sit in traffic everday going to the same place Mon-Fri. I just think if our County would provide alternative transportation choices(besides slow buses)that were fast and efficient and linked population centers with employment centers, people would use them when they see the 5 freeway jammed. Who wouldn't want that choice? Your experience with people wanting to use their automobile as a convenient means of transit rests on the fact that this County really only has one method of transit. The tollroad is so far removed from anywhere that it doesn't seem practical, unless you were trying to get to San Diego on the weekend. The tollroad, my friend, won't solve weekend traffic to San Diego because it will just create a bottleneck 5 miles further south than it already is on I-5. It will continue to be stop and go all the way down to Del Mar. I know from experience.
